Study finds marijuana responsible for creating false memories

New research reveals smoking marijuana may lead to false memories in addition to the well-known weed-induced forgetfulness.

The study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showed that people who smoke pot were twice as likely to experience false memories.

Researchers looked at two groups of people, one under the influence of cannabis and the other who were given a placebo, as they were placed in a virtual reality simulator.

Asked to perform memory tasks, participants who smoked real weed fell victim to these false memories more often than their sober counterparts in the virtual reality environment.

Why Patients Should Always Start With Microdosing Medical Marijuana

Regardless of the patient’s age or medical background, the best approach is always to start with a small dose, which can be increased if and when necessary.

Finding the right dose of a new medication can be tricky. Too little, and you won’t get the relief you’re looking for. Too much, and you can experience undesirable side effects that outweigh the advantages of taking the medication in the first place. The same is true of medical cannabis, which, like any medication, requires careful, slow advancement to find the right amount for each patient.

Does Marijuana Increase Violent Behavior?

The majority of people who use cannabis don’t report aggression or anger, but rather experiences and sensations, such as improved mood, increased relaxation, and better sleep.

Politicians who are against the legalization of recreational or medical marijuana sometimes argue that these measures should be prohibited, or in some states reversed, because cannabis use increases the level of violence in society.
