A former state-owned tree farm in northeastern Ontario will soon be growing medical marijuana, according to one of a group of Canadian companies that’s trying to capitalize on booming demand and the potential for full decriminalization.

There may soon be a new use for your Keurig coffee maker — brewing pot.

Canadian medical cannabis producer CannTrust has created a single-serve marijuana pod called the CANNCUP.

Like other pods on the market, the CANNCUP will contain your choice of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. But these capsules will have a little extra something — dried cannabis.

Pop one in your single serve coffee machine and it will brew up a hot drink spiked with "a standardized dose of medical marijuana," explains CannTrust CEO Eric Paul.

A tiny northern Ontario First Nation has announced plans to get into the medical marijuana business.

The Wahgoshig First Nation, near Kirkland Lake, is partnering with an Ontario company called DelShen Therapeutics to convert a former forestry operation into a facility that will grow "pharmaceutical grade" pot.

The medical marijuana grown will be a strain developed in the Netherlands, specifically for medical purposes.

The entire operation is expected to cost $18-million. In a press release, chief David Babin said the First Nation has chipped in $2-million of that cost.

Now instead of popping two aspirins, residents of Ontario with a medical marijuana prescription will be free to light up their joint even at public places. The province is planning to allow the use of marijuana after a public backlash.

Associate Health Minister Dipika Damerla said they will be considering feedback from the media and the comments online and the government will reconsider the exemption. His exemption will allow medical marijuana users to vaporize in restaurants, at work or on playgrounds.

Rob Cunningham, a senior policy analyst at the Canadian Cancer Society, told VICE News that the passing of the regulation will not bring a major change as there already exists no ban on smoking medical marijuana anywhere in the province.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says she wants to sit in the no toking section at the movies.

Two days after her government pulled back a controversial plan to allow medical marijuana to be vaped or smoked in public places where tobacco smoking is banned, Wynne told reporters she understands the public backlash.
