Combined Facility Capable of Generating an Estimated $30 Million a Year

Marijuana producer Tweed is pairing up with weed-smoking, gin-and-juice sipping Snoop Dogg in a deal that will grant the Ontario-based company exclusive rights to use certain content and brands owned by the rapper’s company, LBC Holdings.

In exchange for the rights, Tweed will pay Snoop Dogg an undisclosed amount in cash and stock.

The partnership is the rapper’s first foray into the Canadian cannabis industry.

Calvin Broadus Jr., the rapper known as Snoop Dogg, has made a number of investments recently in the marijuana business, including launching his own cannabis line, Leafs by Snoop, in Colorado last November.

Earlier last year, he created a venture capital fund focused on the pot industry called Casa Verde Capital.

The needs of recreational cannabis users, and those who use it for medical purposes, are both legitimate and quite different.

I have some chocolates. They have certain properties. A while ago I was hit with a sudden, inexplicable, profoundly crushing sadness. Oh, well, sadness is normal, even welcome at times. 

But not like this. 

I didn’t want to call her; nothing she could do. I didn’t want to walk over to the hospital; I’ve seen Cuckoo’s Nest. But then I thought about depression and the uses of cannabis.

Half an hour and a sliver of chocolate later and I was flooded with wellness, the sort you get in spring, in the early afternoon, when the sun is warm and soft on your cheek. 

A quick note; I was not high.

While cannabis sales have risen across this country, under a cloud (no pun intended) of controversy, for various reasons, as legislation restricting its possession and use have fallen in some U.S. states. Alongside these legal changes, a niche design typology has, ahem, sprouted up: the high-design marijuana dispensary.

The Cannabis Supply Company which will open its doors Saturday is just the beginning for owners Josh Millar and Steve Tota.

The Brant County residents, who live in the Burford area, near Norwich, already are looking to expand the Brantford business, which will sell supplies needed by medical marijuana consumers at its location in Unit 5B of a plaza at 164 Colborne St. W. The store will open at 10 a.m.

"This is phase one," said Millar. "We're looking to supply those who are using medical marijuana now and we're looking to be able to sell medical marijuana, as well."

Ramsin Ishaq can smoke his medically prescribed marijuana all day long at a new medical marijuana smoking and vaping lounge in downtown Windsor, Ont., but health officials say he can't flick the ash from his joint in an ashtray.

Instead, he has to ash his joint on the counter top or table.

That's because health officials ordered the owner of Higher Limits lounge to remove all ashtrays, which cannot be kept inside any business under Ontario's tobacco laws.

The situation is a bit of an odd conundrum for the owner, Jon Liedtke. Those same tobacco laws have no mention of marijuana, which is why he can legally operate a smoking and vaping lounge that caters to medical marijuana users.

An Ontario public health unit is getting ahead of federal promises to legalize marijuana by issuing resolutions on how to regulate the drug. 

Officials from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit outlined their concerns in a report last week. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made it a campaign promise to legalize the drug. Former Toronto police chief, turned Liberal M-P Bill Blair is leading an investigation into what regulations might be adopted.

"From a public health perspective, if we can't get rid of something, let's look at how we can use it safely," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the health unit's associate officer of health.  

The people behind the new vaping lounge in downtown Windsor say it’s not just about providing a place for medical marijuana users to toke up — it’s about clearing the air when it comes to pot.

“We have medical users who are being discriminated against, who have stigmas lingering over them,” said Jon Liedtke, co-owner of Higher Limits.

“It’s not necessary. Quite frankly, it’s inappropriate in the year 2016 … It’s easy to joke about cannabis. But would you joke about someone who needs to use insulin?”

The 6,000-square-foot lounge — formerly Venue Music Hall — is billed as Windsor’s first cannabis vapour lounge and the largest of its kind in Canada.

If the police want to come in, the doors are open. We’re in no position to stop them.

Windsor's first medical marijuana vaping lounge barely had time to open its doors and city officials are talking about finding ways to regulate this type of business.

Higher Limits is already buzzing with customers after opening about a week ago, according to co-owner Jon Liedtke, who says he offers a safe place for medicinal marijuana users to hang out while also eliminating some of the stigma attached to marijuana use.

"We want to bring cannabis out of the closet and put it in the forefront," Liedtke told CBC's Afternoon Drive on Monday. "Right in downtown Windsor is as much of the forefront as we think we can get."
