Oregon’s New Teen Cannabis Prevention Campaign Isn’t Horrible. We Found 8 Others That Were Worse.

With its “Stay True to You” campaign released today, Oregon’s state health agency has done what few nonprofits and government agencies have ever done: created a youth cannabis prevention campaign that’s not entirely embarrassing.

The $4 million campaign, funded by state cannabis tax revenue, uses a combination of adult testimonials, facts about teen brain development, and warnings that younger siblings will emulate their older brothers and sisters. You can watch a couple examples here and here

Where the Stoners Are: America's Top 10 Marijuana Using States

Acceptance of marijuana seems to have reached a tipping point in the United States. Four states and the District of Columbia have already legalized it, half the states have medical marijuana laws now (two-thirds if you count the CBD-only states), and as many as a half dozen states, including California, could vote on legalization in November.

Public opinion polls now consistently report majority support for legalization nationwide, and pot is increasingly moving from newspapers' crime pages to the finance and culture sections.

Consumers Develop a Taste for Marijuana Edibles

Bend processors say they cannot keep up with demand.

The whir and hum of pumps provided background music in a warren of small rooms in a second-floor, nondescript section of an industrial building in northeast Bend.

That music was money being made, in the form of oil extracted from marijuana flowers and leaves, and infused into edibles like gel candies, or baked into macaroons, or, in a solid form, dusted onto nuts and pretzels.

Cameron Yee, owner of Lunchbox Alchemy, said that since food, beverages, extracts and topical applications infused with THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana, became available to all Oregon adults in June, his firm can barely keep up with demand.

Democratic Senator Caught On Video With $70,000 In Drug Money

It’ll probably give him a bump in the polls back in Oregon.

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), a high-profile supporter of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, has been caught on video with $70,000 in drug money. The footage, provided exclusively to The Huffington Post, also captures Rep. Earl Blumenauer, another Oregon Democrat, as well as a prominent local businessman, Tyson Haworth.

The video, however, was not a sting operation run by the Drug Enforcement Administration or FBI. Instead, it’s an effort to highlight a gaping and dangerous hole in national cannabis policy, if such a thing even exists.

Cannabis Edibles And Concentrates Boost The Oregon Market

Since recreational cannabis shops in Oregon started selling edibles and concentrates earlier this month, some dispensaries are already seeing sales increase between "20 and 40 percent," according to local news outlets.

For the first eight months of legal recreational cannabis in Oregon, dispensaries were only permitted to sell bud. Still, according to data from the State Legislative Revenue Office, the state collected $15-million in revenue. This exceeded projections for the entire year by $13-million - between January and May alone.

3 Ways to Avoid Losing Cash in the Legal Marijuana Industry

The THC in the marijuana plant is medicinal and the fibers in hemp can be used in manufacturing. This has led to marijuana being legalized in some states in the US. This includes states like Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Alaska. It is expected that 16 more states will legalize the use of marijuana within the next 5 years. 14 of these states will legalize the use of recreational marijuana and 2 states will legalize medical marijuana. It is projected that by the end of 2019, legal marijuana will bring in a combined income of $ 19 billion in all the states that it has been legalized in.

Stats May Finally Back Claim Marijuana Is Oregon's Top Crop

Sales and tax figures collected by state agencies may finally solve one of Oregon’s long-running farm crop questions: whether marijuana is indeed the state’s most valuable crop, as cannabis advocates have always maintained.

Tight controls and reporting requirements by the Oregon Department of Revenue and Oregon Liquor Control Commission should result in accurate information about pot, said Bruce Pokarney, spokesman for the state Department of Agriculture. The department compiles an annual list of the state’s most valuable crops.
