Cannabis cultivation decriminalised in Spain

The amendment to the law is not as clear cut as it sounds so hopefully the following will help to clarify matters.

The good news for many is that in article 36.18 of the law regarding citizen safety, a paragraph is included with an amendment regarding the cultivation of cannabis that states it is punishable “only in public places”.

Franco’s original law on April 8 1967 prohibited the cultivation of cannabis although violators were often not punished. That law stated that it was forbidden to germinate seeds. Now, growers can germinate seeds in Spain.

Grow shops and registered growers can sell cuttings/seedlings provided they do not display them openly to the public. You certainly can’t start selling bags of the product at the local rastro.

Why Spain’s research and development is going nowhere

The discovery of penicillin wasn’t enough in itself to change the world: it first had to be made into a medicine, and then distributed to humanity. This leap is one that many breakthroughs and inventions by Spanish scientists working at the country’s universities very often fail to make. Research that could improve lives, such as flour for people with celiac disease, a self-driving tractor, or a kit for analyzing wine and beer, and that have taken years to develop and cost millions of euros, are either never developed, or are taken abroad.

Cannabis Cultivation Decriminalised in Spain

Stop Press; Excuse my translations..

A wonderful surprise ant-prohibitionist news for all growers, grow shops and associations. I tell you about the updated public security law that takes effect July 1.

The minimum fine has remained around 600 euros, not 1000 plus as feared. This administrative penalty is still valid for possession in public places, roads, public buildings or public transport etc.

The good news is that a paragraph has been clarified and amended on the cultivation of cannabis, and is said to be punishable only “in visible public places” (Art. 36.18).

Cannabis Movement in Spain will not abide to ‘Gag Rule’

Spain is one of the most leading countries in Europa in terms of cannabis decriminalization. The country is also the inventor of and leader in the so called Cannabis Social Clubs. But lately, the Spanish government seems to be determined to bring an end to this revolutionary process. Check out this Cannabis News Network video from our team in Spain.

In Spain, cannabis is the most commonly used illegal drug. The Spanish Penal Code prohibits its sale but not the personal consumption in private places. Each autonomous community may schedule their way to cannabis legislation.
