Cannabis Activist Offers Niche Program for Connoisseurs of Kush in Colorado

Trichrome Institute courses are modelled after a wine sommelier program: Level one is a $220 lecture, while Level Two costs $335 and includes a sight-and-smell workshop.

A marijuana aficionado in Colorado has launched a program he hopes will make the title of cannabis interpener as familiar as wine sommelier, cheesemonger and chocolatier.

Max Montrose, the 29-year-old president and co-founder of the Trichrome Institute in Denver, said he designed the niche curriculum, which teaches students how to become marijuana experts, after he became fed up with the inconsistent quality and improper naming rampant in the blossoming industry.

This Startup Is Striving to Be the Amazon of the Marijuana Industry

Tradiv's online marketplace for wholesale marijuana connects growers and retailers on a transparent platform, replacing the industry's gray-market pot brokers and backroom deals.

Somewhere between Somalia and Yemen in 2012, Aeron Sullivan, a Marine captain of the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, was aboard the U.S.S. New Orleans thinking about the war on drugs.

His battalion floated around North Africa to stop Somali pirates from running drugs to terrorist groups like al Qaeda and ISIS. The "Big Easy" would spot the pirates, detain them, and seize the assets, mostly opium and munitions. With cooperation from regional governments, the pirates would be sent to prison and the drugs would be destroyed.

Lehigh University Looks to Study Cannabis Effect on Autistic Children

As Pennsylvania prepares to award its first licenses for the fledgling medical marijuana industry, Lehigh University intends to partner with one of the potential growers in the Lehigh Valley to study the effect of the drug on children with autism.

While some parents of autistic children have preached the benefits of cannabis for years, Lehigh's Dean of Education Gary Sasso confirmed Monday that the university wants to collect some of the first quantitative data on the controversial drug therapy. Pennsylvania is one of the few states that specifically allows children with autism to be treated with cannabis.

The $5B Challenge Medical Marijuana Poses to Big Pharma

A big issue involving medical marijuana has emerged in the past year: Many people prefer using marijuana for their condition rather than opioids.

Former NFL and NBA players have come forward to say that both leagues should allow players to at least try marijuana for pain management, given the known issues with opioid use and the ongoing overdose epidemic.

Numerous studies are underway around the world to learn of the potential health benefits of using marijuana, including for pain management.

Grassworks Digital Makes Technology for the Burgeoning Pot Industry

It had been about a year since retailers in Washington state began selling recreational marijuana when Ryan Porter, a vet of the automotive technology industry, saw his opportunity.

He had been consulting for another cannabis startup and saw the need for an automated system that could help marijuana dispensaries manage and track their inventory. Taking the lessons he learned building digital products for AutoNation, Porter launched Grassworks Digital.

“Our core product is Simple Marijuana Menu, which integrates with clients’ point of sale systems, automates inventory updates, and allows consumers to order online,” he said. “Our mission is to be at the forefront of cannabis retail technology.”

What’s Next for Marijuana Warehouses?

Taking advantage of an impending boom in industrial space for marijuana growers — notably class-B and class-C warehouses — isn’t as simple as just snatching up properties and signing up tenants.

Does the growing legalization of recreational and medical marijuana represent a pot of gold for industrial real estate? It could, experts say, but only if investors quickly and carefully pounce on opportunities.

Would You Try A Marijuana Facial?

Being a pothead is so en vogue right now, probably because it also can be totally healthy. Healthy enough that there's a spa devoted to the plant. Thank god, because we were tired of trying to claim smoking weed is healthy if you use coconut water instead of regular old tap in our bongs (and we were never quite sure if that was actually healthy for you in the first place).

Florida Health Officials Move Forward with Medical Marijuana Plans

Florida health officials have laid out a new process to implement the voter-approved constitutional amendment broadly legalizing medical marijuana, as they attempt to meet deadlines included in the November ballot measure.

The latest proposed rule came as the Department of Health awaits Gov. Rick Scott’s signature of a medical-marijuana bill adopted by lawmakers during a special session this month. That bill addressed major issues, such as how many companies will receive marijuana licenses and how many retail outlets they can run.

Lawmakers on Monday formally sent the bill (SB 8-A) to Scott, who has said he will sign it into law.
