High Times was acquired for $70 million by a group of investors including Damian Marley

Venture capitalist Adam Levin led the $70 million acquisition through his new firm, Oreva Capital, partnering with Damian Marley's newly-public company Stony Hill, Ean Seeb, the founder of Denver Relief Consulting, a Colorado dispensary, and 17 other partners in the cannabis, real estate, and technology space.

"High Times, to me, is the Coca-Cola of the industry," Levin told Business Insider. "And obviously, cannabis is one of the fastest growing industries today."

Damian Marley, Bob Marley's son as well as a musician and cannabis investor, said he had used High Times when he was "growing herb" in high school to differentiate between male and female plants (the female plants produce THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis).

Friday Funny: Cracking Open a Cold One

Alright, this is more sad than funny - the US Federal government has announced it is officially backing out of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.  Fortunately, it looks as though this process will take 4 years, so if a new leader is elected after this term there is still hope that the country will return to it and fulfill its obligations to protecting the environment and future generations.

Air Force veteran went from flight chief to marijuana cultivation

Inside his large corner office at the marijuana cultivation facility, U.S. Air Force veteran Ryan Reese kept a model U-2 on his desk and a copy of Time magazine – a special edition about the booming business of pot.

In the past two years, Reese has traded one world for the other.
The 38-year-old father of three retired as a flight chief from Beale Air Force Base in August 2015. His 18-year military service included time in Afghanistan and working as a mechanic on U-2s, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft.

“Cannabis Supporters Be Warned” – The DOJ is going to eviscerate lenient sentencing laws

A recent article published by the Associated Press highlights the Justice Department's intention to roll back Eric Holder’s Justice Department era policies of reduced sentences for first time offenders, non-violent offenders, and people detained with smaller amounts of narcotics.

This could spell big trouble for marijuana enthusiasts should the DOJ decide to start pursuing recreational marijuana states and those who consume in them.

The absurdity of bud tenders, dispensary owners, and the customers who frequent them being arrested and possibly facing maximum sentencing is almost unbelievable – until you take a closer look at the cohort of old-fashion and obtuse gang in the DOJ.

Trump Casts Cloud Over Cannabis, But Money Keeps Pouring In

The Trump administration’s adversarial stance toward marijuana has brought jitters to the burgeoning cannabis industry, but money continues to pour in.

Pot-related companies raised more than $734 million between Jan. 1 and April 21, an almost sevenfold increase from $108 million in the same period last year, according to a report from New Frontier Data and Viridian Capital Advisors. That brings the total amount raised to $1.9 billion since the start of 2016.

Legal Pot Backed by Republican Lawmakers in Growing Number of States

A bill that would ease marijuana possession laws in Wisconsin is getting major support—from a Republican.

Wisconsin state Representative Adam Jarchow introduced a measure Tuesday that would allow people caught with up to 10 grams of marijuana to simply pay a $100 fine instead of having to spend up to six months in jail and pay a $1,000 fine under current law, Wisconsin’s Journal Sentential reported. Presently, anyone caught a second time with weed in their possession is subjected to felony sentences.

Veterans Affairs Secretary: We're interested in looking at medical marijuana for veterans

In his first “state of the VA” address at the White House on May 31, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin highlighted his department’s focus on wait times, accountability, quality of care, and veteran suicides. But it may have been one brief answer to a question after his speech that really signaled Shulkin’s openness to radical reforms for veteran health care.

Asked whether his emphasis on improving veteran mental health and preventing suicides meant he was considering  American Legion’s proposals to decriminalize marijuana and study the drug as a medicine, Shulkin responded: “I hope the people take a look at that.”

Cannabis Growers Overcome the Powerful Scent

Cannabis stinks, its opponents claim, comparing the scent of buds at harvest to skunks.

But beyond its fragrant nose, cannabis enterprise carries an aroma welcome even to many who shun pot: the smell of money.

Cash gushes from the emerging industry. It’s expected to soar to billions of dollars a year in California, with Santa Rosa’s CannaCom Valley at the heart of North Bay cannabis commerce. But cannabis operators must reckon with the reek, which makes some neighbors smoking mad.

At public hearings on cannabis policy held by Sonoma County’s board of supervisors, residents who live near cultivation complained to the board about its pungent smell — especially at harvest. Supervisors responded by banning cultivation in rural-residential zones.
