Is it too cheesy to say that the pot practice is growing like a weed?

Hey, it is what it is. Marijuana actually does grow like a weed and some lawyers are riding high on its popularity.

According to a CBS poll, support for legalized marijuana is growing. More than 60 percent of Americans think it should be legal for recreational use and 88 percent favor it for medical use.

While representing marijuana "drug dealers" may have been a stigma a decade ago, more civil attorneys have emerged from the shadows and are competing for marijuana business clients. Legal developments have helped.

Despite the legalization of recreational marijuana in California, delivering weed is still a risky business. Pot delivery services currently are illegal in the city of L.A. (though that's likely to change), and drivers carrying cash and cannabis could become targets for police and robbers alike.

Cannabis delivery service Eaze (which operates statewide but not in the city of L.A.) dreams of another way. Over the weekend the company demonstrated drone delivery of marijuana at the High Times Cannabis Cup in San Bernardino. Though it says the technology is perhaps years away from being put into use, the "Drone Lifted Experience" demo (see video, below) showed how simple it could be.

When Noa Shulman came home from school, her mother, Yael, sat her down to eat, then spoon-fed her mashed sweet potatoes — mixed with cannabis oil.

Noa, who has a severe form of autism, started to bite her own arm. “No sweetie,” Yael gently told her 17-year-old daughter. “Here, have another bite of this.”

Noa is part of the first clinical trial in the world to test the benefits of medicinal marijuana for young people with autism, a potential breakthrough that would offer relief for millions of afflicted children — and their anguished parents.

Silicon Valley investors are known for pouring money into risky bets like flying cars and asteroid mining. Now, a handful are diving into one of the few industries that makes most of their peers squeamish — pot.

As the marijuana industry soars, with New Frontier Data predicting legal pot sales will balloon to more than $24 billion by 2025, a handful of venture capitalists are climbing on board — albeit cautiously. Those putting money into the industry say it’s a rare chance to stake an early claim in a lucrative market with little competition from other investors. But they’re keeping one eye on President Donald Trump’s administration, watching for signs of a federal crackdown that could derail the burgeoning industry.

The cannabis workers protection bill is moving swiftly through the California Assembly.

At a hearing today, members of the Business and Professions Committee voted to move the bill forward after brief testimony from its sponsor, the UFCW Western States Council. The Assembly Committee on Labor and Employment will hear the bill next.

Nevada Senators Give Marijuana Bills Thumbs up, MostlyTwo marijuana bills skated through the Nevada Senate on Tuesday, another deadline day, and two others squeezed through. 

All bills introduced in the Senate and the Assembly had to be heard in their respective body by the end of the day on Tuesday, unless they were exempt due to fiscal notes. 

Many US politicians continue to oppose legalising marijuana, both medical and recreational, even going so far as ignoring the wishes of their voters in Florida. Although 71% of Florida voters approved medical marijuana last year, the Florida legislature has been dragging its feet to complete necessary regulation.

The first time I met Flow Kana founder Michael Steinmetz, it was September of 2015. We rendezvoused at a Dogpatch coffee shop because his startup's office was too tiny to host guests. He spoke rapidly and breathlessly (as South Americans tend to do) not just about his brand (as startup CEOs tend to do) but about a culture he envisioned, where cannabis could subsidize California's small farmer ecosystem and usher in a new era that would be "friendlier, giddier, and a little more tolerant." At the end of our hour-long conversation, I sent him an email: "I don't know whether to write a story or to ask you for a job."

Nobody can argue, legal marijuana is a huge growth industry, in every sense of the word. Legal marijuana sales reached $6.9 billion in 2016, and many experts predict that number may triple now that California has voted to legalize recreational use. Bloomberg forecasts that the industry may reach $50 billion in the next 10 years ($22.8 billion by 2020).

Some investors are starting to wonder if there’s a way they can make money in this sector?

Well yes there is, or at least there are stocks they can buy if they want to bet on the industry’s continued growth, which every analyst out there agrees it will.
