At a Society for Human Resource Management conference in Washington DC last month, a session on drug testing in the workplace was so heavily attended that organizers had to switch rooms to accommodate the audience. Even then, it was standing room only. And the hour set aside for the talk wasn’t enough: outside the hall, employment attorney James Reidy, the presenter, answered questions for 40 minutes afterward.

The blue states have legalized marijuana for only medical purposes, while the red states have legalized it for both medical and recreational purposes. In all, 23 states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana in some form.

It's been almost 20 years since the first state legalized medical marijuana, but conflicting regulations between the states and the lack of federal direction on its rules and regulations have left the industry fractured and stunted.

While there may be no shortage of marijuana among home cultivators in a few months time, D.C.'s current medical marijuana cultivators are experiencing just that. So much of a shortage of crop that the D.C. Council passed emergency legislation yesterday to allow medical marijuana cultivators to grow more weed.

The bill, "The Medical Marijuana Supply Shortage Emergency Amendment," was introduced by Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large) and doubles the amount of plants D.C.'s three medical marijuana dispensaries can grow from 500 to 1,000.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Legislature has approved an overhaul of the state’s medical marijuana market, sending to Gov. Jay Inslee a bill seeking to eliminate unregulated dispensary sales now that the state’s recreational market is in place.

The Senate on Tuesday concurred with changes made to the bill in the House last week, and then voted 41-8 to pass it out of the chamber and on to the governor for his expected signature.

Among its many provisions, Senate Bill 5052, would create a database of patients.

High cigarette taxes fuel a surging black market in smuggled cigarettes, notes Americans for Tax Reform's Patrick Gleason in the Wall Street Journal. New York smokers are the greatest beneficiaries of that black market, burdened as they are with the most ridiculous cigarette taxes in the country. We know the end is coming, but pot prohibition is going to have to be undone state by state. Here are the ones least likely to jump on the bandwagon.

Marijuana prohibition in the US is dying, but it isn't going to vanish in one fell swoop. Even if Congress were to repeal federal pot prohibition, state laws criminalizing the plant and its users would still be in effect—at least in some states.

A new study shows a mean reduction in seizures of over 50% in 3 months among some patients with epilepsy taking cannabidiol (CBD).

Results of an open-label, multicenter trial of a liquid product that is 99% cannabidiol (Epidiolex; GW Pharmaceuticals), the major nonpsychoactive ingredient in marijuana, showed that treatment provided seizure relief in children with Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) who had been resistant to at least eight antiepileptic drugs.

A day before a scheduled vet appointment to euthanize her dog, Wendy Mansfield decided to try one last resort to alleviate the chronic pain of her 15-year-old labrador mix: cookies from a marijuana dispensary made specifically for ailing dogs.

"We don't want to be going through a small town and have someone see bins in the back," said Young, a founder of courier service CannaRabbit. "We do not want to stick out at all."
