The Maryland Congressman Who Messed With DC’s Marijuana Reform Could Be Replaced By a Pro-Pot Republican

What could it cost Representative Andy Harris to be Congress’s leading voice against DC’s legalization of marijuana? Perhaps his career in national politics, according to a new poll of primary voters in the conservative Republican’s Maryland district which shows him losing badly to one of his three challengers.

Marijuana tax revenue paying for sidewalks, schools in Colorado. Why not here?

The gym rats who join the still-under-construction recreation centre in central Denver, Colo., will owe their workouts to weed smokers.

In Pueblo County, south of Denver, students will soon be able to walk to school on a sidewalk paid for by marijuana tax revenue, or apply to the world's first cannabis-funded scholarship program.

"We're taking dollars that were previously going to drug cartels in Mexico and using them to provide opportunity and education to the next generation," says Pueblo County Commissioner Sal Pace. Elected officials there recently approved the use of $2.5 million U.S. in pot taxes to fund a mix of community projects.

The thing D.C. could do to allow legal pot sales — but probably won’t

The D.C. Council’s surprise see-saw on loosening marijuana laws Tuesday — and promise to revisit the issue within a month — has set up a vexing period of high-stakes negotiations that could put the council on a collision course with Mayor Muriel E. Bowser and with a Republican-controlled Congress that wishes D.C. voters never legalized weed in the first place.

For just 20 minutes, it was legal to use weed in D.C. businesses

WASHINGTON — It was legal until suddenly it wasn’t.

On Tuesday, the D.C. City Council voted to dissolve a ban on marijuana use in private businesses, only to reinstate the ban 20 minutes later.

It led to brief confusion with some council members, who weren’t exactly sure what they agreed to.

Before the vote, the majority of the council didn’t see the need for an emergency extension of the ban, so the panel decided to let marijuana be used in private clubs.

“Reissuing a blanket ban on all consumption not in a residence is not a good way to move forward,” said Councilwoman Brianne Nadeau, Ward 1.

Councilman Vincent Orange said he was concerned about citizens who can’t use marijuana in their homes, like those who live in public housing, for instance.

DC Not Buying Kush Gods' Donations for Marijuana

On Dec. 22, 2015, Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department detained Nicholas Cunningham and Evonne Lidoff for misdemeanor distribution of marijuana, through Kush Gods, Cunningham’s business that exchanges cannabis for contributions.

When the District’s voters passed Initiative 71, restricted property and cultivation of cannabis ended up being legal. And while the retail sale of marijuana had not been legalized, the law made it possible for individuals to transfer up to one ounce of cannabis to another individual.

Man argues DC marijuana laws make 'Kush Gods' pot brownie business legal

WASHINGTON (AP) — A man accused of running a business known as "Kush Gods" that openly sold marijuana brownies and other pot-laced edibles on the streets of Washington has been released from custody — and he's anything but apologetic.

District of Columbia police announced Tuesday that Nicholas Cunningham, 30, and an employee, Evonne Lidoff, 18, were facing misdemeanor charges of marijuana distribution. They were released after their initial court appearances and ordered to stay away from the nightlife districts where police say they were operating.

Watch: With pot legalized in DC, some are gifting marijuana for the holidays

Christmas is approaching fast and this is a big week for people to load up on gifts to place under their tree.

Since Initiative 71 became legal back in February, it means this is the first holiday season you can legally give marijuana as a present to people over the age of 21 in the District of Columbia.

This is certainly a controversial subject, but marijuana activists estimate there are at least 500 home marijuana growers in the District.

DC's Hottest Christmas Gift This Year is Weed

The holiday greenery in the nation's capital this year isn't mistletoe; it's marijuana. This Christmas is the first since the DC marijuana legalization, Initiative 71, went into effect earlier this year, and that means DC residents can legally give skunky-smelling Christmas presents to each other.

“It's a lovely holiday season because you can give cannabis to your friends in Washington DC,” said initiative organizer, political activist, and all-around DC gadfly Adam Eidinger. “Giving cannabis has become like the latest, ‘Hey, I baked a pie. I grew this. Would you like it?’ And it is a very special gift,” he toldFox News 5.
