Oldest U.S. Senators Accused of Holding Biased Marijuana Hearing

A 'prohibitionist party' panel held Tuesday featured little balance.

The two oldest members of the U.S. Senate convened a four-witness hearing Tuesday to discuss concerns about marijuana legalization, but chose not to invite anyone supportive of the policy or with direct experience administering recreational pot laws in Western states.

Drug reform advocates denounced the hearing as a poorly informed waste of time, and senators most supportive of reforming federal marijuana laws did not attend.

Marijuana Legalization Movement Just Won Multiple Courtroom Battles, But Will That Be Enough to Quash Future Legal Threats?

By many accounts, Monday was a banner day for the marijuana movement in the courts. In the nation’s capital, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up a lawsuit filed by Nebraska and Oklahoma to overturn Colorado’s legalized marijuana program, meaning that if the two states’ attorneys general want to continue to pursue the matter, they will have to do so in federal district court.

State Must Enforce Safe Standards for Pesticide Use in Marijuana Production

AS parents, it’s our absolute worst fear. For Lisa, it began when her 6-month-old daughter Cynthia was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy.

Her child’s small body would spend the next five-plus years racked daily by punishing, life-threatening seizures — until Lisa discovered that a cannabis tincture could control the neurological disease that would otherwise cause her daughter’s death. Today, Cynthia is 9 and is an energetic and vivacious little girl.

Banks Need Government's Help to Say Yes to Weed, Lawmakers Argue

A group of lawmakers want to make it easier for banks to just say yes to the booming business for legalized marijuana.

Four Democratic U.S. senators from Washington, Colorado and Oregon, asked a group of regulators Thursday to clarify how lenders can help finance the industry and still comply with the law so that companies in states that permit pot sales don’t have to run their businesses solely on cash.

How new rules in two states could give birth to Big Marijuana

When the legal pot industry began to boom in Washington, big-money investors predicted the cannabis trade in the Northwest would soon be the darling of corporate America.

Former Mexico President Vincente Fox appeared at a Seattle news conference in 2013 along with pot entrepreneur Jamen Shively, who laid out plans to create the first national brand of marijuana and promised Big Tobacco-like growth.

“Yes,” he said, “we are Big Marijuana.”

But it all went up in smoke and Shively’s national pot brand never materialized.
