man looking thoughfully at digital charts

These marijuana stocks made investors rich in November. Here's why they'll do it again.

A "Green Wave" is sweeping across North America. In November, voters in four states cast their ballots to legalize recreational marijuana, which will open up new cannabis markets in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota. The North American legal marijuana market will likely reach $19.1 billion by next year and then grow at double-digit percentages annually.

There are certain pot stocks that are best-positioned to capitalize on the current cannabis craze. Here's why Aphria (NASDAQ:APHA)(TSX:APHA), Trulieve Cannabis (OTC:TCNNF), and Acreage Holdings (OTC:ACRGF) are the best pot stocks to buy this December and hold for a long time.

Sign outside Canopy office

Company says 14 positions will be affected, but if operations had started they were expected to create 145 jobs

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Canopy Growth is announcing it will not be opening its production facility in St. John’s.
Fourteen jobs will be “impacted,” according to the Canopy vice-president of communications Jordan Sinclair.

In a news release, Sinclair described the decision as "difficult," but apparently it is not one that came about suddenly. He also said it was made as part of a strategic business review that began earlier this year.

St. John's is not alone in being affected by the move. The company is also closing facilities in Fredericton, N.B.; Bowmanville, Ont, and Edmonton, as well as its outdoor production sites in Saskatchewan.

Australian Natural Therapeutics Group receives cannabis oil manufacturing license

grower looking at marijuana plants in a greenhouse

NSW-based Australian Natural Therapeutics Group (ANTG) has been granted a license to produce large quantities of medicinal cannabis oil for commercial use as the industry booms on the back of good news internationally.

ANTG will commence commercial manufacturing of cannabis oil at its Armidale facility following receipt of the license from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Founded in 2015, ANTG already produces four strains of medicinal cannabis flower, and will soon add four oil combinations to its product range following.

ANTG CEO Matt Cantelo said the license signifies a big step in the buy-local movement and will mean price drops in medical cannabis as more of the drug is made on-shore.

Canada’s first ever cannabis product liability class action has been snuffed out – at least in part. As previously reported in this newsletter, the Nova Scotia Supreme Court’s certification of Downton v Organigram Inc., a product liability class action against a New Brunswick based medical cannabis producer, was a historic first. Now, just over a year later, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal has substantially limited the plaintiff’s claims on appeal and reduced the defendant cannabis producer’s potential exposure to damages considerably.

The recent surge in marijuana stock prices has brought a major relief to cannabis investors. Industry stocks had suffered a severe beating since signs of oversupply emerged in 2019 and companies went on painful restructuring exercises. The relief hasn’t been confined to the investor community alone. Even some management teams at badly hit cannabis companies have taken a welcome and refreshing breather too.

Cannabis may be consumed by adults of all races, ages, and genders, but in Canada, those employed in the upper echelons of the nascent industry don’t reflect that diversity. Auditor General: Ontario not properly monitoring movement of recreational cannabis in retail stores

Ontario’s Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk says there is a lack of transparency and oversight with the operations of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), the agency responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, horse-racing and private cannabis retail sectors throughout the province.

With nearly 80,000 licensees across four industries in its purview, Lysyk’s report states that “the AGCO does not have strong processes and systems in place to effectively carry out its regulated activities.”
