When the World Health Organization declared COVID 19 virus a global pandemic, hundreds of businesses and markets worldwide fell apart. A majority of them enacted temporary closures. Others reduced operations, which meant relieving off some employees their duties. Finally, however, things have begun to show up if some businesses’ Q2 2021 Financial results are anything to go by. A good amount of marijuana stocks are still dealing with the up and down trading that’s taking place. Now even with some cannabis stocks showing good entry levels investors want to see a bigger rise in the sector. From November 2020 through the first month and a half of 2021, many cannabis stocks were able to see a consistent climb in trading.

Despite the Ontario government overseeing the sale and distribution of the province’s cannabis industry, a push to “support local” is happening here in Simcoe County. 

As of 2020, Ontario had the highest number of cannabis production companies with 112, followed by British Columbia in a distant second at 62.

Simcoe County is home to a few large cannabis producers, one of which is Carmel Cannabis in Oro-Medonte Township, north of Barrie. The company was launched in June 2019.

Co-founder Dustin Laren says Carmel falls into the cannabis industry's craft section, which mainly deals in small-batch, hang-dried and hand-cured product.

Like many others who are involved in the cannabis sector, Laren was in a different line of work before.

Entourage Health Corp. (formerly WeedMD Inc.) With cannabis still being illegal on the federal level — classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance with “no currently accepted medical use” — companies in the sector find it difficult, if not impossible, to list on major U.S. stock exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ.

Neither of these stock exchanges accepts companies that sell cannabis in the U.S., even when operating in states where adult-use consumption is now legal. That’s because federal law trumps state law. And, with the feds and the state not being in sync on this important issue, confusion and controversy pop up on a regular basis. Is medical marijuana legal in nursing homes and assisted living facilities? Can sports leagues allow athletes to medicate with cannabis? What about the V.A.?

The improvement in adjusted EBITDA can be attributed to Indiva reporting strong revenue growth. The better sales numbers were negatively impacted by higher operating expenses and we are not surprised by this increase. We are favorable on how the business has advanced and believe the business is well positioned to capitalize on a burgeoning vertical of the Canadian cannabis industry. 

A key aspect of the Indiva story is related to the relationship it has with leading US cannabis brands like Wana Sour Gummies and Bhang Chocolate. Going forward, we expect these brands to serve as a key growth driver for the business and are favorable on how sales numbers have been ramping up. 

Developed countries are falling over each other to legalise marijuana and its sister – industrial hemp. Kenya has a Bill laying eggs in Parliament over legalising the same. While marijuana and hemp are from the same cannabis family, they’re different: weed is a recreational, intoxicating substance, hemp, on the other end of the joint, is a sub-species of the cannabis plant with benefits of industrial proportions. 

Marijuana is used for recreation as it has a higher level of tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound which leaves smokers feeling like touching the sky. Hemp has lower levels of tetrahydrocannabinol and thus not ideal for altering a person’s mental state via intoxication. 

A growth-oriented and diversified company focused on the international cannabis industry, is pleased to announce that it has received the test results (the “Test Results”) from the four successful batches that comprise the recent crop of cannabis grown and harvested at its Delta greenhouse complex. The Company submitted five strain samples – Mimosa, Motor Breath, Purple Punch, Rogue Gelato and Thrive – to an independent, Ontario-based laboratory to test each one for THC content, CBD content and moisture level.
