Hemp waste, a new cement replacement and biofuel

hemp plant

The market for industrial hemp, which can be used to make a wide variety of products, was estimated to be US$5 billion in 2019 and is forecast to grow to US$36 billion by 2026.

More hemp being turned into more products means more hemp waste, which is the stalk after the leaves, flower and seeds have been removed.

Aurora (TSX:ACB) Stock Is Down $15 From Its Peak in February: Buy Now?

question mark

Optimism among Canadian cannabis producers was high when Democrat Joe Biden won the U.S. presidency in November 2020. Three senators from the party promised legislation in early February 2021 that would end the federal prohibition on marijuana. Weed stocks rallied, including Aurora Cannabis (TSX:ACB)(NYSE:ACB).

From $10.60 on December 31, 2020, the share price soared 126.04% to $23.96 on February 10, 2021. However, the rally didn’t sustain because there’s no significant progress yet to remove marijuana from the federal schedule of controlled substances.

Delta-8, Smokable Flower Is Saving Hemp Farmers

hemp plant starting to grow

The future looked bright for hemp farmers, but the demand for CBD didn’t follow at the expected levels.

Delta-8 and smokable flower are the two products keeping hemp framers alive. The regulatory loophole that has allowed Delta-8 to be sold legally is also causing legal confusion. Delta-8 is a cannabis product that can be derived from hemp, but still give the consumer a light psychotropic experience. Some states have issued restrictions around the product, while others haven’t addressed it at all. Either way, the demand has been a blessing to hemp farmers who planted lots of acres in 2019 expecting a surge in CBD products, only to see the market contract and prices plummet.

London-listed marijuana business Kanabo (KNB.L) has struck a deal that it says will make it Europe's biggest publicly traded cannabis company.

Kanabo said on Monday it had agreed terms to buy the European operations of Canada's Materia, a cannabis processor and supplier. Exact terms weren't disclosed but Kanabo said the deal would be paid for through shares and subject to performance-related goals.

"The only part that we’re not involved in now in the supply chain is cultivation," Kanabo's chief executive Avihu Tamir told Yahoo Finance UK. "Our belief is that cultivation will be a commodity like other agricultural products. We believe the value is in the last mile."

The cannabis grow operations are located within the Agricultural Land Reserve

A large-scale greenhouse, that’s made the switch to cannabis, is finally entering the market with its first harvest.

AgraFlora Organics International Inc. has a partnership with the huge Houweling Nurseries complex on 64th Street, an operation called Propagation Services Canada.

Greenhouse owner Ruben Houweling and CEO Elise Coppens this week on Twitter proudly pictured themselves in the drying room at the Delta facility, saying the operation’s first harvest is complete.

The venture will see the eventual conversion of the entire 2.2-million-square-foot greenhouse facility, which is located in the Agricultural Land Reserve.
