Although recreational cannabis is legal in Canada, adults are only allowed to grow up to four plants per residence (not per person) for personal use.

What Does 2021 Have in Store for the International Cannabis Industry?

One of the only bright spots in 2020 was the emerging cannabis industry. Whereas the ongoing global pandemic has negatively impacted virtually every other industry on earth, the legal international cannabis industry has powered forward.

According to data firm BDSA, spending on the legal cannabis industry is expected to top $20 billion in 2020, up from an estimated $14.8 billion in 2019. To put that number into perspective, the international music organization IFPI estimates that the entire global music industry is worth roughly $20 billion dollars, and unlike the music industry the cannabis industry has plenty of room for growth.

New Brunswick Scraps Plan To Privatize Cannabis Industry

Canada is only one of two countries where cannabis is legal for adult use, along with Uruguay.

Uruguay was the first nation to legalize cannabis. However, its legalization model is more restrictive compared to Canada.

In Canada, the legal adult-use cannabis industry is open to anyone of legal age, whereas in Uruguay only residents can make purchases.

Within Canada, there are various sub-legalization models between provinces, with New Brunswick having a particularly unique industry model.

Nationwide search underway for new leadership at Ontario Cannabis Store

The exclusive wholesale cannabis distributor in Canada’s most populous province is once again searching for leadership.

The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), which operates OCS.ca, the province’s only direct-to-consumer legal recreational cannabis e-commerce platform, has announced it has embarked on a nationwide search for the role of president and chief executive officer.

The OCS tapped Thomas Haig as the interim president and CEO in September 2020. That appointment was made following the departure of Cal Bricker, who began serving as the president and CEO of the crown corporation in September 2019. Bicker replaced Patrick Ford, who retired after helping launch the OCS and operated at the helm of the organization for a year.

Thanks to Covid-19, home growers of cannabis have taken over a share of the market from drug dealers

Back in the days when “skunk” was mainly associated with cartoon character PepĂ© Le Pew and hydroponics was a way of improving cucumbers, most of the United Kingdom’s cannabis supply was imported from places such as Morocco and Lebanon. This changed in the past two or three decades in the UK and many other countries as organised criminal gangs set up growing ope

Canadian cannabis companies cheer SAFE Banking Act reintroduction in U.S. House

Canadian cannabis companies are cheering the reintroduction of the SAFE Banking Act to the U.S. House of Representatives today.

The act proposes offering safe harbour to financial institutions like banks and insurance companies, who provide services to cannabis businesses and has long been seen as helpful for Canadian pot companies looking to expand to the U.S.

The National Cannabis Industry Association says the bill was previously approved by the house in a 321-103 vote in September 2019 and then headed to the senate, but didn't move forward and had to be tabled again because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

'This approach to labelling is misleading Canadian cannabis consumers'

The CEO of B.C.-based licenced producer Pure Sunfarms is sounding the alarm about potency labelling practices among Canadian cannabis companies.

In a blog posted on LinkedIn, Mandesh Dosanjh says that some producers are taking a ‘static’ approach to labelling products, and the THC and CBD values displayed on the products may not be accurate for each individual batch.

Almost two years on, only 395 people have been pardoned under program meant to clear weed possession records

Fewer than 400 people have successfully been pardoned for cannabis possession offences despite a new federal program introduced almost two years ago that was aimed at doing precisely that.

Citing figures from the Parole Board of Canada (PBC), CTV News reports that officials have granted 395 pardons under the program up until Mar. 21, 2021. More people have applied for pardons — 251 more, in fact — but these have been rejected for reasons ranging from ineligibility to incompleteness, according to the PBC.
