N.B. RCMP seizes illegal cannabis edibles after tip from Canada Post

A Canada Post distribution centre was instrumental in the New Brunswick RCMP seizing cannabis edibles, some of which looked very much like popular candy, and dried flower earlier this week in Dieppe.

The RCMP did not specify how much candy was confiscated, but did report that officers also discovered “a significant amount of illegal dried cannabis.”

'These products can be used to target children': N.L. liquor corp. issues a warning over contraband cannabis

Newfoundland and Labrador’s seizure of cannabis copies of popular chip, candy and cookie brands is a perfect example of why people should only shop at legal weed retailers and an apt opportunity to cite the need for vigilance, authorities say.

It was anything but the real thing last week when members of Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation’s (NLC) regulatory compliance and enforcement department received custody of 375 packages of cannabis chips, candy and cookies, as well as 300 assorted candies, imitated to look like non-weed products.

Why Different Countries Are Relaxing Their Cannabis Laws

As the first European country to legalize cannabis, Luxembourg has called on other European countries to relax their drug laws, specifically cannabis production and consumption. According to the European state, the continent’s drug policy has not worked over the last few decades, and forbidding everything made it more attractive for people to find new ways of skirting laws.

The country’s relaxed laws will see residents over 18 years old able to buy cannabis for recreational use starting from 2020. The state will establish a cannabis agency to regulate all production and distribution. What’s more, minors between ages 12 and 17 will not face criminal charges if caught in possession of five grams or less of the drug. However, those who break the law will receive harsh penalties.

What’s The Correlation Between Legal Marijuana And Teen Use?

Studies that show no links between legal cannabis programs and marijuana use by young people should be encouraging news for advocates and those who are wary of cannabis.

A new batch of data shows that despite marijuana earning its legal status in several U.S. states, young people aren’t exactly getting their hands on the stuff any easier. This data adds to a growing body of evidence that indicates that legal marijuana doesn’t make it more likely for teens to consume it.

Marijuana legalization makes black market weed cheaper, heroin more expensive

When states first began to “experiment” with the legalization of marijuana, lawmakers, state officials, and everyone else, for that matter, were eager to see how selling legal weed would pan out.

On the one hand, naysayers wanted to judge whether the socioeconomic cost of legalization was worth the tax dollars the market would surely drive into state and local coffers. At the same time, advocates stood waiting for a “told ya so” moment, when they could show the nation that a legitimate pot market would not lead to a drug-addled society. Years later, the results have been mixed.

Canada's Regulated Industry Has Grown. What About the Black Market?

Canada is currently home to the largest legal adult-use cannabis industry on earth. The only other country that has legalized adult-use so far is Uruguay. Unfortunately, there are still unregulated markets.

Whereas Canada has a population of roughly 37.5 million people, Uruguay’s population is less than 1/10th of Canada’s (roughly 3.5 million people). In addition to a much larger population, Canada’s adult-use industry is open to anyone of legal age compared to Uruguay where only residents can make legal purchases. Canada’s legalization rollout was far from smooth, however, that was expected given the fact that Canada was essentially doing something that no other country had done before.

U.K. man ran illicit dispensary importing and selling Canadian weed

A Welsh man’s business selling illegally imported Canadian cannabis to patrons across the U.K. was busted after the smell of success proved too strong.

Bradley Furness, 26, is facing a suspended sentence after running what the prosecution referred to as a “pot distribution centre” from his home in Aberystwyth, Wales.

Suspicions were piqued in June 2017 when a worker at a postal centre noticed a distinctive odour wafting from a mail bag containing 52 similarly labeled padded envelopes, Wales Online reports. Inspectors opened the packages, which were each revealed to contain sealed packages of weed, alongside a polite “thank you” note.

Canada Now Has Psilocybin Dispensaries

Dana Larsen is anything but discreet about his business—and that’s exactly the point. “I’m definitely not the first person to sell mushrooms online,” he says. “But I might be the first to put my name, face, and reputation on the line for it.”

Manitoba cites ‘significant public safety concerns’ in shutting down cannabis store

In what is believed to be a first for Manitoba, the Meta Cannabis Supply Co. store on Long Plain First Nation’s urban reserve in Winnipeg has had its license pulled after regulators reported it was breaching provincial requirements.

It is alleged the store sanctioned and is selling unregulated cannabis from an unlicensed store on the First Nation’s Keeshkeemaquah reserve, according to a joint statement Wednesday from Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries (MBLL) and the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba (LGCA).
