Reports show sales of cannabis vapes plummeting amidst hospitalizations, deaths

Vaping products, one of the fastest-growing segments of the legal marijuana industry, have taken a hit from consumers as public health experts scramble to determine what’s causing a mysterious and sometimes fatal lung disease among people who use e-cigarettes.

The ailment has sickened at least 530 people and killed nine. Some vaped nicotine, but many reported using oil containing THC, marijuana’s high-inducing ingredient, and said they bought products from pop-up shops and other illegal sellers. The only death linked to THC vapes bought at legal shops occurred in Oregon.

Nova Scotians still buying illegal cannabis, survey shows

Some Nova Scotians are still buying from illegal sources, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the NSLC about cannabis use in the province.

The survey covered the first six months after legalization in October 2018.

According to telephone and online surveys conducted by Narrative Research in March and April, 41 per cent of Nova Scotians who were buying recreational cannabis were purchasing their product exclusively from the NSLC.

But the survey also said 40 per cent of people were purchasing cannabis from both the NSLC and illegal sources, while about 20 per cent were buying solely from illegal sources.

"It tells us that we are making an impact on the illicit market," said Beverley Ware, spokesperson for the NSLC.

It may be legal, but it's not protected: pot plant thefts growing

While the legalization of cannabis may have eliminated some drug-related crimes — another may be budding for green thumbs.

In the early hours of Sept. 15, someone snuck into a Colchester man’s backyard wearing what appears to be a balaclava and stole four of his legal pot plants — all caught on video. The property ovner, who did not want to be named, saw the footage on his security camera and reported the incident to police.

“I spent a bunch of money, I spent the time. I was going to end up with something I didn’t have to purchase through OCS (Ontario Cannabis Store),” he said. “It’s a prideful thing, it’s all of that. And then, in the end, someone steals your stuff.”

High-flying marijuana vapes take hit from health scare

Vaping products, one of the fastest-growing segments of the legal marijuana industry, have taken a hit from consumers as public health experts scramble to determine what's causing a mysterious and sometimes fatal lung disease among people who use e-cigarettes.

The ailment has sickened at least 530 people and killed nine. Some vaped nicotine, but many reported using oil containing THC, marijuana's high-inducing ingredient, and said they bought products from pop-up shops and other illegal sellers. The only death linked to THC vapes bought at legal shops occurred in Oregon.

Amid the health scare, the amount of the legal pot industry's revenue that comes from vape products has dropped by 15% nationwide, with some states, including Oregon, seeing decreases of more than 60%.

What does weed taste like (and how to make it taste better)

When you consume cannabis, how often do you think about its flavour?

Sure, most may take a whiff at a dispensary to help the decision-making, but is it the main reason one reaches for the bud when it is time to toke?

I imagine the answer for many would be no.

But for a handful of industry professionals, they are staking their careers on a passion for the rich flavours and smells cannabis can produce — and hoping others can be persuaded to feel the same way.

From cannabis sommelier courses to new “elevated” dining experiences, they are taking cannabis and flavour to the next level.

Hard to please? Marijuana product recalled after it failed to get Canadians high

An actual health hazard warning was released after a marijuana product couldn’t get Canadians high.

The product was sold at a Quebec cannabis distributor and it was mislabeled. This led to Health Canada to release an actual hazard warning.

Some customers received cannabis containing 12.2% THC while others received ‘Bayou Flower’ containing 6.36%. That would probably mean some people were getting 50% higher than others depending on what they were sent.

An Indian Express report said that around 16,818 units of the recalled product were sold, of which, fortunately only 245 units were mislabeled.
