B.C. teen vaping plan coming within the month, says minister

B.C.’s plan to tackle the alarming increase in teen vaping and e-cigarette use will come within a month and likely include a new licensing system similar to tobacco sales, says the province’s health minister.

Adrian Dix said he is concerned by the rising number of cases across North America of youth who have suffered lung damage and other health problems after using e-cigarettes.

“We’re going to act soon,” Dix said Monday. “I think it’s a serious situation. We’re disappointed, despite our considerable efforts, that the federal government didn’t act before the election. But we remain optimistic they will (act). People expect us to act very soon and we will lay out our plan certainly within the next month.”

Day-long summit tries to take canna-tourism to new heights

With Canada getting a head start on most the world when it comes legalization, canna-tourism is about to take off.

In an attempt to help companies up their game, Blue Mountain Village Conference Centre will play host to the first annual New Heights Cannabis Tourism Summit next month.

“Canada has caught the world’s attention with the legalization of recreational cannabis and canna-tourism is the next big thing,” said Jennifer Mason, founder of the event. “Now that edibles will be launching on October 17th, it presents an even bigger opportunity for many tourism cannabis experiences.”

Ontario is particularly ripe for the new industry with its relatively relaxed regulations and an abundance of cannabis consumers interested in new adventures, Mason said.

Feds' foot-dragging over cannabis edibles will delay sales, says producer

Federal red tape and foot-dragging on approving makers of edible cannabis will see months-long delays in the products reaching stores, a Calgary chocolatier said Thursday.

A spokeswoman with Alberta’s cannabis regulator also voiced frustrations about the process.

City businessman Brad Churchill said he’s been waiting for a licence allowing him to infuse chocolate with cannabis at his Calgary factory since applying for it in late July.

The owner of Choklat said he received a reply from Health Canada but no licence this week, and fears the time it takes to receive it and approval for such things as packaging will push back the actual sales date for his products to March or April.
