Requests for qualifications, which allow potential vendors to pre-qualify for the process by which the NWT government selects a store operator, closed for the five communities between December and February.

Around the same time, two private retail cannabis stores were given permission by the territorial government to operate in Yellowknife.

No businesses applied to operate a store in Fort Simpson or Fort Smith.

This week, Canadian cannabis super brand Suprette opened a store in the Glebe section of Ottowa, and honestly we've never seen anything like it.

The dispensary is a technicolor, Willie Wonka-like stroll into a cannabis utopia. Part boardwalk carnival, part retro diner, and part cannabis store, the store is a joint venture between co-founders Mimi Lam and Drummond Munro.

The creative duo has opened three cannabis stores in the past two years and won a Clio Award for their brand design. But the Glebe store takes their imagination to a whole new level. It even has a claw machine!

Should Alberta weed retailers be able to sell online? Provincial regulator wants to know

COVID-19 has delivered a hard hit to many different types of businesses across Alberta and, indeed, the country. Would revising the rules governing cannabis retail in the province offer businesses a cushion and smoother transition to the new normal?

That’s what Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is looking to find out with the release of a new survey this week. The short survey asks retail businesses about two things: should private-sector cannabis retailers be allowed to sell marijuana online and should they be permitted to sell non-cannabis items, such as clothing.

The term “entourage effect” is commonly used in cannabis news articles, and it doesn’t mean a group of people who love weed or those who are cannabis enthusiasts. The term is used to describe the synergy between the combination of different chemical combinations in cannabis.

Are Cannabis Consumption Lounges The New Legalization Trend?

The global cannabis industry is maturing, demands are increasing and better reforms are being enacted for the industry to attain a mature market. The not-so-new innovation that is becoming prevalent now is the "cannabis consumption lounge".

The basics

The best way to explain this is to liken it to a bar. Simply put, a bar is an alcohol consumption lounge, that is a public space where alcoholic drinks are consumed. Therefore a cannabis consumption lounge is a licensed and safe space for a group of people to consume cannabis.

Cannabis lounges may just be the best element to make cannabis socially acceptable by all age groups in the country. It will go a long way in ensuring an equitable industry that caters to all.
