Scratch and Sniff Marijuana Book Educates with a Sense of Humour

The Scratch & Sniff Book of Weed teaches readers about the benefits of cannabis use, as well as social issues such as the discriminatory nature of the drug policy enforcement.

During a week when two of the biggest movies out are Power Rangers and CHiPs, it’s easy to succumb to the belief that there’s truly nothing new under the sun.

Then along comes The Scratch & Sniff Book of Weed.

It looks like a children’s book, with a bright yellow cover, hand-drawn illustrations and those thick cardboard pages that little hands can easily flip. But the content is decidedly adult, with tiny chapters on everything from “The Botany of Buzz” to the legalization movement to weed in the bedroom.

Kansas City Voters Approve $25 Fine In Easing Of Marijuana Law

Missouri deems marijuana possession a crime that carries hundreds of dollars in fines and a potential jail term. But residents of Kansas City voted overwhelmingly to reduce the penalties there, becoming the latest city in the state to relax punishments for people caught with small amounts of pot.

Nearly 75 percent of voters approved the ballot initiative, Question 5, in Tuesday's special election. The pot measure was considered alongside infrastructure issues and candidates for school district posts.

State of the Leaf: Texas Decriminalization Measure Moves Ahead, MMJ Stalls in SC

Florida

There’s a lot going on in Tallahassee as Sunshine State legislators forge the regulatory framework for Florida’s medical marijuana program.

Senators appear poised to advance legislation (SB 406) to welcome five new cannabis dispensaries to Florida by October. At least one would be minority-owned. Friday’s measure also requires four additional dispensaries within “six months after each instance of the registration of 75,000 qualifying patients with the compassionate use registry.”

That 75,000 figure is dramatically less than the previous threshold of 250,000.

Canada: Why Parents Dreading Legal Weed Should Consider Chilling Out

One of the most common criticisms of legalizing marijuana is that it will negatively impact Canadian youth.

The annual worldwide celebration of marijuana smoking, a.k.a. 4/20, has always struck me as a little bit awkward. This is because the day on which it falls and from which it gets its name — April 20 —{+ }also happens to be the birthday of Adolf Hitler, a man whose memory (for most) does not inspire the kind of good vibes one hopes to achieve at a weed festival. Hitler, as a 4/20 reveller might put it, was not a chill dude.

The federal Liberal party, on the other hand, is doing its best to prove that it’s packed full of chill dudes and of course, dudettes. (It’s 2017, after all.)

In Colorado, It's Still The Wild West For Home-Grown Marijuana

Neighborly disputes are nothing new. There’s the dog next door that poops on your lawn. The house that throws loud backyard parties. The guy down the block who always plows through the stop sign.

But in Colorado, the introduction of legal, home-grown marijuana has elevated tension among neighbors to a whole new level.

Because of gaps in the state constitutional amendments that legalized cultivation of the drug for recreational and medical purposes -- and in the ensuing rules that sought to regulate it further -- some rural pockets in Colorado are seeing large-scale cooperative marijuana grow operations sprout up with little oversight.
