Netherlands: Supreme Court upholds ban on tourists in cannabis cafes

Dutch cannabis café owners can refuse to sell soft drugs to foreign nationals because this does not conflict with European legislation on discrimination, the Dutch Supreme Court said on Tuesday. The ruling relates to a 2010 case in Maastricht when the government introduced a new law banning a cannabis café from selling to tourists. The Supreme Court referred to a European Court of Justice ruling in 2010 in which judges said restricting sales to non-residents is ‘justified by the objective of combating drug tourism’ and reducing public nuisance. A cannabis café doorman had been prosecuted for allowing tourists to buy drugs on the premises.

The findings are based on 14,502 respondents who participated in Vote Compass between Sept. 22 and Sept. 24.

Legislation To Protect Marijuana In The Next Presidential Term

Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Washington D.C. all have legal recreational marijuana, this is a big question in the upcoming election. Who is going to honor these states’ decision and who is going to shut it down when their term begin? Especially with the recent Republican debates, it seems some Republican candidates will have absolutely no problem showing up to Colorado’s door with federal agents.

Project SABOT allows RCMP to spot marijuana grow ops from the sky

WINDSOR, NS – The fight to keep drugs off the streets in Nova Scotia is now starting hundreds of feet in the air.

For the last month, RCMP have been partnering with the Department of Defense to eradicate marijuana grow operations in the province.

Project SABOT is an annual initiative that sees officers take to the skies to seek out drug operations from a military helicopter. This year, Global News got to ride along on one of the explorations.

“The helicopter allows for a different perspective,”Const. Mark Skinner, RCMP told Global News. “It’s easier to spot the plants, where we couldn’t necessarily see the plants from the ground.”

Students showcase pot-influenced art

Marijuana was a gateway drug to Polynesian dance for Alex Couture.

Now a 19-year-old UF physics freshman, he started attending music festivals when he started smoking pot about a year ago. He said seeing people there spin poi, an art form from New Zealand in which dancers spin sometimes-flaming balls on ropes, inspired him to try it for himself.

Tuesday night in a Little Hall classroom, Couture showed off his skills at a meeting of NORML Gators dedicated to the influence of cannabis on art. He and five other students showed performances and artwork they said weed helped them create to an audience of about 15.
