Legalize pot, 56% in Mich. poll say

By a margin of 20 percent, a majority of Michigan voters supports legalization of small amounts of marijuana for adult recreational use, as two competing groups race to put the issue on the November 2016 ballot.

Support for legalization topped 56 percent in a statewide poll conducted June 9-11 by the Glengariff Group Inc. and released exclusively to The Detroit News and WDIV-TV.

Among 600 likely 2016 general election voters, opposition to ending Michigan's decades-old cannabis prohibition was just under 36 percent.

"The issue is in a position to win," said pollster Richard Czuba, president of the Chicago-based Glengariff Group. "This has a chance, but it's not an easy campaign."

'Drugs Were for Pigs,' Says Farmer Caught With Marijuana in Russia

A sexagenarian farmer caught in possession of a stash of marijuana said the drugs were for his pigs, narcotics officers said in a statement Monday.

Officers from the Federal Drug Control Service in the Rostov region found 1.2 kilograms (42 ounces) of marijuana in the trunk of the 66-year-old pig farmer's car, along with a few hemp seeds, the statement said.

The man said that he had prepared the marijuana from wild-growing hemp for his sickly swine, and insisted its usage was strictly for medicinal purposes. It was not immediately clear what health problems the pigs had.

Though the farmer told police he does not use the marijuana, investigators have ordered him to undergo toxicological tests.

Medical Marijuana Laws Don't Increase Teen Use

Teen use of marijuana doesn't seem to change when states pass laws legalizing the drug for medical purposes, a new study suggests.

Researchers analyzed information from more than 1 million U.S. teens in grades 8, 10 and 12, who were asked whether they'd used marijuana in the past month. The researchers collected 24 years' worth of survey data, spanning 1991 to 2014.

Could Pot Strengthen US-Israel Ties?

Many people would probably be surprised to know that Israel has become synonymous with marijuana over the years because of research conducted by its top scientists and professors. Now a group in New York state wants to bring the best of that know-how to America.

Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, now a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was the first person to isolate the psychoactive THC component of marijuana. He was also the first to test THC drops in children with cancer. And some of the major advances Mechoulam made in his cannabis research were financially sponsored by the American government in the form of the National Institute of Health (NIH) grants long before marijuana was medicinally legal in the United States.

Imagine if the media covered alcohol like other drugs

What if the media covered alcohol like it does other drugs? This was a question that came up in my coverage of flakka, a synthetic drug that made headlines after law enforcement blamed it for people running in the streets naked in delusional paranoia. What follows is a satirical attempt at capturing that same type of alarmist reporting, but for a substance that really causes widespread and severe problems.

NEW ORLEANS — An ongoing drug epidemic has swept the US, killing hundreds and sickening thousands more on a daily basis.

Cannabis industry pioneer is poised to help stabilize production, distribution and pricing issues across Colorado

The CEO of Denver-based Kindman announces the expansion of his production and packaging facilities, an action that should help to stabilize the pricing of cannabis

DENVER (June 15, 2015) -- One of Colorado’s flagship legal marijuana growers and distributors is expanding its operations; part of an effort its chief executive says will go a long way towards stabilizing the currently volatile pricing of cannabis.

As the Colorado Pot Guide web site recently noted, prices for legal cannabis have dropped significantly this year, due to the explosion of “grow only” operations across the state. That oversupply is good for consumers, but is forcing companies to lower their prices in order to remain competitive.

Colorado Supreme Court: Companies Can Fire Employees for Using Marijuana

In one of the most highly watched marijuana cases in the country, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled Monday morning that companies can fire employees for smoking pot—even if it’s off-duty and despite the drug being legal in the state.

The decision poses a major setback for legalization proponents, as it sets the precedent that state marijuana laws do not override federal law that declares the drug to be illegal.

Marijuana Policy Project: Mass. pot legalization will help jobs, hurt gangs

Legalizing marijuana in Massachusetts would create thousands of jobs in a newly regulated market, snatch a lucrative business away from "gangs and cartels" and generate new tax revenues for government, according to the political director of legalization efforts in five states, including Massachusetts.

During a televised interview broadcast on Sunday morning, Matt Simon of the  Marijuana Policy Project told WCVB-TV's "On the Record" that he believes an initiative petition being drafted to legalize marijuana will be approved "overwhelmingly" after a debate over impacts in states where it is already legal, including Colorado and Washington.

LAs Reigning Queen of Cannabis is a Pot Doctor to the Stars

(JTA) – Stepping into the lobby of the West Hollywood medical marijuana dispensary where Dina Browner serves up buds to movie stars, it’s hard to miss the name Snoop Lion splashed across a hydroponic grow box painted red, green and gold.

The Rastafarian rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg didn’t have anyone to operate the custom-made indoor marijuana greenhouse that came as a gift from its manufacturer, so he asked his “doctor” to keep it filled with cannabis flowers.
