Canada Pot Lounges Expand Into Smaller Markets

Canada’s bring your own marijuana vapor lounge scene is experiencing impressive growth. Originally a metropolitan city phenom, bring your pot lounges have opened in smaller Canadian communities with great success.

Until recently lounges were a Toronto thing because our politicians and police presumably had better things to do. When conservative city councilor Mark Grimes did request a report on bring your weed lounges, a City of Toronto staff investigation determined lounges were actually Medical Marihuana Inhalation Facilities that had few police problems.

Not exactly what Grimes was seeking.

Major Colorado pot shop chain lays off 45% of its employees

One of Colorado’s largest chains of marijuana stores on Wednesday laid off 65 employees — or about 45 percent of the company’s total workforce, according to owner Shawn Phillips.

The pot layoffs are believed to be the largest in Colorado’s 16-month recreational era.

Phillips owns nine cannabis stores in Colorado, all of which are part of the Strainwise-branded network, and he called the cuts “drastic” but “temporary” in a letter he wrote to employees obtained by The Cannabist.

Secondhand exposure to cannabis smoke under extreme conditions impairs cognitive performance

The British government will introduce a bill to tackle radicalisation and immigration problems in the country, a media report said on Wednesday.

British Prime Minister David Cameron will tell the National Security Council that the anti-radicalisation bill will be in the Queen's speech on May 27, BBC reported.

Besides powers to close down premises used by radical groups, the bill will also include new immigration rules.

"What we are proposing is a bill which will have certain measures within it, measures such as introducing banning orders for groups and disruption orders for individuals, for those who are out there actively trying to promote this hatred and intolerance," Home Secretary Theresa May was quoted as saying.

Gov. Gary Herbert says he's 'open to the idea of medical marijuana'

SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert said Thursday he's open to legalizing marijuana in Utah for medical use.

"I'm open to the idea of medical marijuana and the discussion of how it can be used as a medicine based on science, and making sure we have good, collaborative efforts so we can answer the questions that are out there," the governor said.

Herbert said during the taping of his monthly news conference on KUED Ch. 7 that the state has "a history of looking at opportunities, for medical purposes, to bring substances on board that maybe historically have not been traditional medicine."

He cited cannabis oil, approved by lawmakers a year ago, as "helping people who have had seizures, and seems to be demonstrating scientifically there is some benefit."

Denver marijuana tax refund: Plan for city ballot measure passes first step

Denver voters in November may decide whether the city can keep its first-year haul from a 3.5 percent special recreational marijuana sales tax.

The city’s ballot question would join a likely statewide measure asking the same question about $58 million collected by the state last year from its separate marijuana tax. In Denver’s case, at stake is nearly $5.3 million.

A City Council committee approved the wording 5-0 Wednesday. The measure is expected to get the council’s final sign-off June 8.

Pot Is A Hallucinogen That Lets Satan Devour You, Says Colorado GOP Rep.

Gordon Klingenschmitt, the supreme moron of the Colorado state legislature, is back on his radio show, now that Colorado’s latest legislative session has ended. His controversial statements have, in the past, angered even some of his fellow Republicans, but he’s one of those religious right-wingers that doesn’t seem to care. He’s upset about Colorado legalizing pot, because the hallucinations it causes are actually invitations for demons to possess users.

Arizona: Yavapai County RICO Funds Paid for Anti-Marijuana-Legalization Effort

Sheila Polk, Yavapai County Attorney, wants to use more public funds to fight a planned cannabis legalization measure in Arizona.

A law-enforcement task force in Yavapai County cut a $50,000 check from RICO funds to a substance-abuse group dedicated to fighting marijuana legalization in Arizona, New Times has learned.

The deal between the Yavapai County-based Partners Against Narcotics Trafficking (PANT) task force and MATFORCE was made soon after the Marijuana Policy Project announced it would launch a 2016 legalization campaign in Arizona — and more public funding against legalization could be on the way.
