Dominion strike leaves central Newfoundland shoppers with no cannabis retailer

The almost four-week-old Dominion strike is turning into a major buzzkill for cannabis enthusiasts in central Newfoundland, who have been left with no retail outlets for miles.

Dominion was granted the only two initial retail licenses for cannabis sales in the central part of the province, and the store's contract dispute with Unifor Local 597 has led to the closure of both establishments — as well as eight others across the province.

"It's just a big bummer all around, really," said Jennifer Warren, a resident of Gambo. "You gotta order stuff online — and with COVID, too, the mail thing slows everything down."

Warren says cannabis is part of her daily routine with her boyfriend, but ordering by mail is just not the same.

Millennials Or Boomers? A New Study Tells Which One Uses Marijuana More Frequently

One subject on which the generations definitely agree, however, is their mutual appreciation for and enthusiastic use of cannabis, according to a new study by U.K.-based Verilife, which hosts dispensaries n six U.S. states.

Even that appreciation, however, dissolves into generational differences, Mehul Patel, COO of Verilife’s parent company PharmCann, told LeafReport. “Cannabis bridges the generational divide,” Patel said. “Our recently commissioned Verilife study shows baby boomers are twice as likely as millennials to look to cannabis for medical purposes; and relaxation is the top reason for consuming recreationally for both generations.”

New Twitter policy triggers health warnings when users search for marijuana

Twitter has partnered with the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to raise awareness about substance abuse when people search for marijuana on the platform.

According to a report from Marijuana Moment released this week, no such policy exists for alcohol-related searches.

When Twitter users search for marijuana or related keywords on the social media platform, a notification that reads: “Help is available. If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, you are not alone” pops up above search results. The notification is accompanied by a link that leads to the website of SAMHSA, which is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Martha Stewart-branded CBD gummies arrive in crowded market

Canopy Growth Corp. and Martha Stewart are starting their joint bid to break into the CBD market, betting that curated flavors and her celebrity name will bring the ingredient to a new demographic.

Use of CBD, which companies promote as a natural way to mitigate anxiety or manage pain without the high produced by cannabis, has exploded in recent years as attitudes shifted on marijuana and associated products. There are currently around 3,000 brands in a market that Canopy Chief Executive Officer David Klein predicts will reach $10 billion in annual sales in the U.S. by 2023.

Cannabis users aren't stereotypical stoners: Survey

Gone are the days of getting stoned while sitting on the couch and watching Ren and Stimpy.

The stereotype of the couch-locked stoner is long gone as Canadians are being more productive with their lives while consuming cannabis.

Commissioned by cannabis brand Figr, a Maru/Blue survey found 72% of Canadians don’t fit the stereotype, choosing to smoke up while performing daily tasks such as laundry or dish washing.

Of those surveyed, 51% of females would consider using cannabis to help them while doing chores while 35% indicated they’d do the same.

The Figr survey suggests that Canadians are finding different ways of integrating cannabis use into their daily lives, in what the company is calling the modern cannabis consumer.
