Peer pressure key in drug driving decisions, study finds

driving

“Drug drivers more likely to be single, young males who often drive after using cannabis and who score high on sensation-seeking and impulsivity scales.”

An Australian systematic review of 219 publications found that peer influence is the most important social factor that would either induce or inhibit drug driving.

Citing the potential influence that drug driving can have on road crashes, investigators from the Queensland University of Technology sought to identify factors associated with drug driving to highlight knowledge gaps and, hopefully, “inform the design of more effective countermeasures.”

Researchers considered related information found on six different databases from Jan. 1, 2005 to July 31, 2021.

2 years later, Cannabis 2.0 isn't saving Canopy Growth

reviewing documents

This Canadian pot company was the first to impress customers with cannabis derivatives, so what went wrong?

Derivatives are additional recreational products that Canada legalized in October 2019 as part of "Cannabis 2.0" legalization. These products garnered a lot of consumers' attention. Thus, Canadian pot companies were eager to launch them. Canopy Growth (NASDAQ:CGC) was the one to jump at the opportunity.

Canopy Growth had an early mover advantage in the Canadian medical cannabis market. It first started selling cannabis oil in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016.

Cannabis Sector Paid $15 Billion in Taxes, But Still No Growth in Weed Stocks

stock charts on mobile phone

The cannabis sector paid billions of dollars in taxes, but it doesn’t mean weed stocks are noteworthy investments in 2022.

The cannabis sector in Canada has a positive impact on the country’s economy, despite the underperformance of weed stocks on the TSX. According to consulting and auditing firm Deloitte, it has generated more than $15 billion in tax revenues (direct and indirect) for the federal and provincial governments.

Likewise, the industry contributed 151,000 jobs to the labour market since the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2018. In the inaugural TSX30 List in September 2019, four cannabis companies were among the top 10 growth stocks. Canopy Growth (TSX:WEED)(NASDAQ:CGC) was ranked number one.

The firm says Adam Arviv’s ‘actions serve as an unhelpful distraction’

It’s been a rough week for Quebec cannabis firm Hexo Corp. (TSX: HEXO) (Nasdaq: HEXO). With stock falling low enough to risk losing its Nasdaq listing, a shareholder is demanding a shakeup of the legacy board.

On Wednesday, shareholder Adam Arviv, who owns about a 2-per-cent stake in Hexo, called for five new independent directors to replace most of the current board members, in hopes of turning around the company’s “disappointing performance.”
