Seth Rogen shares thoughts on beating black market weed in Canada

Canadian actor Seth Rogen, who recently launched his own cannabis brand in partnership with Canopy Growth, believes that the Canadian government should reconsider its strategy against combating the black market for marijuana.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, the Pineapple Express star described Ottawa’s current efforts as “not incredibly helpful if their actual goal is to destroy the black market.”

According to Rogen, people have less incentive to sell weed legally due to the complex and expensive procedure for setting up dispensaries.

A third of polled Canadians might be giving the gift of ‘green’ this holiday season

Thanksgiving went virtual, Halloween is shaping up to be a hands-off experience and Christmas get-togethers might be a no-go. But that doesn’t mean gift-giving this festive season needs to suffer, particularly if one’s choice is the green stuff.

Despite COVID-19’s continuing clampdown, plenty of people are high on possibly making cannabis and pot-related products their gift for family and friends alike this coming holiday season.

So suggests the recent Maru/Blue online survey of 1,507 randomly selected Canadian adults, 453 of whom had used weed within the past five years. Commissioned by FIGR Brands Inc., the national poll results have been weighted by education, age, gender and region to match the population, as per Census data.

'Too much cultivation': Pot legalization anniversary comes amid supply glut concerns

Two years after Canada legalized recreational cannabis, the country is awash with the stuff.

Hundreds of thousands of kilograms of cannabis sit idle in producers' vaults. Warehouses operated by provincial wholesalers are filled to the brim with finished products. Meanwhile, illicit growers remain active and add to a country-wide stockpile that is far outpacing market demand.

The mountain of pot is expected to balloon further once producers – both legal and illicit – finish their "Croptober" harvest, the term used within the cannabis industry in reference to the period around October when outdoor cannabis crops are chopped down and processed.

Canada Medical Cannabis Survey Results

A recently published survey report from Medical Cannabis Canada provides a snapshot of medicinal cannabis patients in that country and the challenges they face.

The survey report is based on the responses of a sample of 1,000 patients polled from July 28 to August 1, 2020.

Among the findings, just over half of patients were relatively new to using cannabis medicinally – three years or less. The most common conditions it was being used for were anxiety disorder, depression, and insomnia. As for how much patients were spending each month, for those with a medical document (which was 37%) the figure averaged out to CAD $159.10 and for those without a document, $118.10.
