Canada: Guelph's Marijuana party to enter federal election race

GUELPH — Provided he gets the signatures required for the nomination, Kornelis Klevering plans on running in this fall's federal election under the banner of the Marijuana party.

This will be a third attempt for Klevering, having also run in the 2008 and 2011 general elections.

Reached for an interview at the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club on Gordon Street Wednesday afternoon, Klevering said he felt the need to throw his hat into the ring once again — there are still a number of issues that need to come forward, he said.

As the name of the party suggests, the legalization of marijuana will be a main issue for Klevering.

"How can the cannabis and marijuana party not jump into a federal election when the issue's going to be about legalizing marijuana?" he said.

Marijuana found growing in Vancouver traffic circle

Police say a lush and thriving marijuana plant discovered sprouting up in traffic circle in Vancouver is harmless.

A number of robust cannabis plants were found nestled amongst other flowers and ornamental grasses in a public traffic circle near Vancouver’s residential Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood.

Sergeant Randy Fincham, a spokesperson for the Vancouver police department, said officers removed one of the plants for analysis, to see if it was male or female. Only female varieties of the marijuana plant have buds, and thus THC, the chemical responsible for marijuana’s high, Fincham said.

This, despite the fact that only about 4.6 per cent of all Canadian Forces veterans currently live in the province, according to estimates from the federal government.

Veterans in New Brunswick received $2,239,738 in 2014-2015, figures obtained from Veterans Affairs Canada show.

By comparison, the total payments across the country during the same period amounted to $5,225,107.

Canadian medical marijuana producers have international aspirations

TORONTO - As Canada's burgeoning medical marijuana industry ignites, a number of local pot producers are looking to take their homegrown expertise abroad.

"With the cannabis market across the world expanding and opening up, that's presenting opportunities for Canadian producers," says Neil Closner, the chief executive of Toronto-based MedReleaf Corp.

Analysts say Health Canada's strict quality controls make exporting plants grown in Canada to other jurisdictions a cost-prohibitive proposition. Instead, Canadian producers are looking to take what they have learned at home and set up new corporate entities in other countries.

These big blunders will leave you in a cash crunch. But money management doesn't have to be difficult

hen Susan Rohac assesses the creditworthiness of a prospective corporate borrower, it’s not uncommon for her to see an unpaid bill or two from four months ago. It’s usually from an untidy payable account. But not always. This time it was a 120-day-old receivable and the client on the hook was the owner’s friend.

“Oh, I know him very well,” the entrepreneur told Rohac, the senior vice president of financing and consulting at BDC in Ontario. “He’s going to pay.”

The Simple Power of Writing Down Your Goals

Why the best tools to help you achieve your objectives might be a pen and paper

Remember when Oprah wanted everyone to read The Secret, the 2006 self-help book that extolled the power of positive thinking? And how everyone imagined they already owned six convertibles and a closet full of Manolo Blahniks and it magically just came true? Yep, still total bunk.

Medical marijuana activists protest pot-store closure at police HQ

WINNIPEG – Marijuana users were doing more than blowing smoke outside Winnipeg police headquarters Monday morning. They were protesting the closure of Your Medical Cannabis Headquarters, a marijuana store on Main Street.

A handful of people lit up joints outside the Public Safety Building in Winnipeg Monday to show their displeasure with police for closing the store two weeks after it opened.

Glenn Price, the store owner, said he only provides marijuana to people with appropriate medical documents. He plans to reopen the store at 11 a.m. Tuesday despite the shutdown, and supporters have promised to build a human chain barring police from the store.

Cannabis Semantics

Prohibition is based upon "Double Speak"

In scientific terms, the correct word is Cannabis. Sativa is simply Latin for 'cultivated': as in cannabis sativa (L). Using the terms marijuana, pot, marihuana or even hemp obscures the reality and taxonomical origins of the species.  Artificial divisions are created and thus maintained by the Ministry of Truth.

How often do we see in the mainstream media, "Hemp is a cousin to marijuana."  This is nonsense and it is deliberate deception.

"Smoke-in" planned for police HQ, Winnipeg

A “smoke-in” in support of Winnipeg’s only medical marijuana dispensary is planned to take place just outside Winnipeg police headquarters Monday morning.

The peaceful protest at the Public Safety Building on Princess Street follows two visits Glenn Price said police made to his store, Your Medical Marijuana Headquarters, on Tuesday and Thursday of last week. The store owner says police are trying to force him to stop selling the medical weed because he has not been approved by Health Canada.
