Colorado may require warning labels for marijuana edibles

In an effort to make pot-infused products more distinguishable for consumers, edible marijuana products in Colorado may soon come with octagon-shaped red warning labels, according to a draft of new rules released Wednesday by state marijuana regulators.

Multiple instances of people unwittingly consuming marijuana edibles have been reported, including one case where a man ended up in the hospital at the 2014 Denver County Fair.

The prospect of children accidentally consuming pot products is especially concerning to many, and state regulators are also looking into banning the word “candy” on cannabis-infused sweets – even ones that are otherwise usual chocolate or gummies.

Maryland native dubbed 'marijuana mogul' in Colorado

e first time Brian Rogers took a bong hit at a party with his Havre de Grace High School friends, he said marijuana had no effect on him.

Now Rogers co-owns a multimillion-dollar marijuana company in Colorado at the center of the CNN docu-series, "High Profits," and he's no longer ambivalent.

"It's changed my life," the 34-year-old Harford County native said.

While recreational marijuana is illegal in 46 states — including Maryland — Colorado has been at the forefront of the legalization movement. And Rogers has been at the forefront of capitalizing on it.

Colorado may ban 'candy' name on marijuana treats, add red stop signs to packages

DENVER — Edible marijuana products in Colorado may soon come labeled with a red stop sign.

The state is finalizing work on new rules for the appearance of edible marijuana. A draft of those rules released Tuesday would require each piece of edible marijuana to be marked in the shape of a stop sign with the letters THC in the middle. The letters stand for marijuana's psychoactive ingredient.

The rules would also prohibit any edible marijuana maker from using the word "candy" on the label.

Basalt-area marijuana farm's license in peril

In a highly charged meeting Tuesday, Pitkin County commissioners told the owners of High Valley Farms, a marijuana grow facility that debuted last year, that its license is in serious peril because of its chronic stench.

The meeting was the latest in a series of county commissioner work sessions over the smell wafting from High Valley Farms, located in the Basalt area. And each time, Jordan Lewis, co-owner of the greenhouses, has assured commissioners and neighbors the stench will be eradicated. The neighbors also have been making repeated claims that the odor hasn’t gone away, continually and negatively impacting their lifestyle.

A cannabis startup wants you to choose your own high

What if you could choose exactly the type of high you felt when you smoked a joint or ate a pot brownie?

Scientists at the cannabis company Ebbu are creating marijuana extracts to conjure up the kind of mood you’d like to feel. They want consumers to experience one of their five branded feelings: giggle, create, energy, chill, and bliss.

“Consumers don’t purchase edibles based on flavoring, they purchase based on how it’s going to make the person feel,” says Dooma Wendschuh, co-founder of Ebbu.

According to experts, marijuana in its raw form is totally unpredictable, which is why most first-time users don’t know what to expect when they try it. Ebbu is trying to take that unknown factor out of the equation.

Marijuana Legalization in Colorado Leads to First ‘Weedery’

Green Man Cannabis Ranch and Amphitheater is set to open early next year in Denver. It will grow marijuana in greenhouses.

Wineries and breweries should brace themselves for some unusual competition. Colorado, which legalized marijuana for recreational use in 2012, will get its first “weedery” in early 2016.

Coloradans May Soon be Allowed to Smoke Marijuana at Bars

One of the biggest selling points of Colorado’s Amendment 64 that voters approved in 2012, legalizing the sale and consumption of marijuana for recreational use, was the idea that cannabis would be treated like alcohol in both regulation and consumption. In fact, the bill was literally named “The Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act of 2012.” While the state has generally done a fine job of abiding by the spirit of the law, one issue has proven to be more complicated than the others: Public consumption.
