While 19 year old Levy Thamba Pongi (a student hailing from the Republic of Congo) may not have died directly from the ingestion of too much cannabis, it’s what happened after the drugs kicked in that is causing Colorado to reassess labelling procedures on the packaging of treats containing the recreational narcotic.  After being dissatisfied with the effects from part of a cookie made with marijuana, the Wyoming teen decided to ingest the whole thing, leading him to essentially ‘trip-out’ and jump off a fourth-story balcony.  The incident took place March of last year, however new details are emerging as the state scrambles to stop others from following in the late exchange student’s footsteps.

Company Plans to Engage and Advise Licensed Grower of Hemp and Marijuana

Los Angeles, California (FSCwire) - Medbox, Inc. (OTCQB: MDBX), a provider of specialized services to the cannabis sector, including operators of dispensaries, cultivation centers, manufacturers and research facilities in those states where approved, today announced it has signed an agreement to purchase 320-acres of agricultural land in Pueblo, Colorado. Terms of the transaction, which is expected to be completed in August 2015, were not disclosed.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in a report released Friday, says the case of a teen who leapt to his death from a Denver hotel balcony after eating marijuana-infused cookies illustrates “a potential danger” with edible pot.

A teenager in Colorado leaped to his death after consuming a marijuana cookie containing six times the recommended amount of the drug.

A study published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention focuses on the death of a 19-year-old man from Wyoming who consumed the cookie on a visit to Colorado, where recreational marijuana use was legalised in 2012, and recommends clearer labelling for edible recreational products containing the drug.

A teenager in Colorado died after consuming an entire marijuana cookie that contained 6 servings of marijuana’s active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), according to a new report.

Entrepreneurs are trying to boost sales by steering pot toward the Whole Foods crowd.

Upon entering Dixie Elixirs's headquarters in Denver, you're greeted by a big sign that reads: "The Future of Cannabis." Since its 2009 founding, Dixie has updated its image from a "pot soda" company to a gourmet THC edibles manufacturer whose carbonated drinks and snacks, containing ingredients like pepita and sea salt, look like they could be found on a shelf at Whole Foods. 

It's just one example of how marijuana businesses are rebranding the plant to distance pot from its hippie-stoner-outlaw culture and show off its appeal to a health-conscious, kale chip-eating crowd.
