Creative Rolling Paper Reminds Smokers Not To Drive While High On Marijuana

The legalization of recreational marijuana in the US has led to an increase in the number of people operating vehicles under the drug’s influence.

To encourage responsible consumption of cannabis, highway safety advocates We Save Lives has developed a rolling paper with a unique design that sports the message, “Pot slows your reactions. Don’t smoke and drive”.

As the user rolls up the joint, the scene of two cars colliding head-on into each other is revealed on the paper.

Survey: 76 percent of doctors approve of medical marijuana use

A majority of doctors would approve the use of medical marijuana, according to a new survey.

"We were surprised by the outcome of polling and comments, with 76 percent of all votes in favor of the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes -- even though marijuana use is illegal in most countries," the survey's authors wrote.

The results appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine on May 30. It included responses from 1,446 doctors from 72 different countries and 56 different states and provinces in North America. In addition, 118 doctors posted comments about their decision on the survey.

Lawmakers pushing for marijuana-vote-a-rama

Lawmakers are prepping for what could turn into a "marijuana-vote-a-rama" Wednesday, sources say.

Pot advocates expect lawmakers to introduce at least half a dozen marijuana-related appropriations amendments that would roll back the Justice Department’s authority to enforce drug laws around the country.

The marijuana amendments would handicap the Department of Justice (DOJ) in its fight with states over the enforcement of local pot laws.

“The politics have continued to shift in favor of marijuana law reform,” said Tom Angell, chairman of the Marijuana Majority.

Hemp industry enters 2nd year with hazy market potential

FORT LUPTON, Colo. (AP) — The newly legal hemp industry is entering its second growing season with some big questions for producers experimenting with marijuana's non-intoxicating cousin.

The federal government has allowed limited imports of hemp seed — in Colorado's case, this month — for research and development purposes. Companies trying to create a U.S. hemp industry are seeking investors not only for unproven products but for a plant that is still classified under the federal Controlled Substances Act with marijuana and thus cannot be patented.

As a result, it's too soon to tell whether hemp will become a boon for farmers or stay in mostly boutique products that use imported hemp.

Fewer Pot Packages Found in Mail As Legalization Takes Hold

Pot intercepts dropped 12 percent as Colorado and Washington opened stores.

The amount of marijuana detected in the national mail system surprisingly declined in 2014 as the world's first licensed recreational marijuana stores opened in two Western states, appearing to dash at least some predictions of chaos as other jurisdictions move to legalize the drug.

Data provided to U.S. News by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service show the number of marijuana parcels seized by inspectors fell more than 12 percent in fiscal 2014, with a coinciding decrease in the collective weight of contraband cannabis.

Not all hotels are pot friendly in the valley despite recreational marijuana legalization

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. House, home, and maybe hotels? Amendment 64 gave the green light for the private and personal use of marijuana, but that doesn't always carry over into the rooms we rent.

According to Darshann Ruckman , General Manager of the Clarion Inn here in Grand Junction, the issue of marijuana consumption inside hotel rooms comes up on a day-to-day basis.

For her establishment, franchise regulations require Ruckman run a non-smoking facility - so whether you want to light up a cigarette, cigar, or joint, the answer is “no.”

However, if you want to consume your pot without smoking -- Ruckman says -- there's no problem with that at the Clarion Inn.
