Marijuana gets only quick puffs in GOP debate in Boulder, Colorado

Colorado's new green income stream has received only two very brief mentions during the Republican debate at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Of those, only one was a real question, direct to Gov. John Kasich of Ohio: "Given the budget pressures in Ohio and other states, is that a revenue stream you'd like to have?"

"Sending mixed messages to kids about drugs is a disaster," Kasich replied, before redirecting the conversation to add his thoughts to a previous question about income inequality.

The other, earlier reference to marijuana was nothing more than a joke, when Ted Cruz joked about sharing a "famous Colorado brownie" with the moderators. It was good wit, but didn't address the financial question that would be asked later.

Cannabis candy fight continues

A cannabis candy contractor who was sued last week by his former employer for allegedly stealing trade secrets and trademarks has fired back in court.

After being slapped with a court-ordered injunction preventing him from selling his brand of marijuana gummies, Scott Bergin is suing his former employer, Green Cross Colorado, for allegedly engaging in unfair business practices.

“Make no mistake, we will defend our business and our employees who work very hard to make our business a success,” Bergin said in an email to BusinessDen.

New documents detail marijuana found on Menominee Tribal land

Federal documents released Monday outline what authorities found on Menominee Tribal land before a search warrant was done last Friday.

On Friday near Suring, federal and local authorities say they seized 30,000 marijuana plants from the land. No one has been arrested.

Now they say someone from Colorado was growing it.

Throughout the allegations, the Tribe maintains it was growing hemp for research, not marijuana.

Days before the thousands of plants were loaded into dump trucks, Menominee Police officers and a Bureau of Indian Affairs agent toured the land.

The affidavits show inside this barn authorities found more than eleven-hundred plants drying, restricted ventilation and workers with no protective gear.

Many Republican Candidates Secretly OK With Legal Marijuana

I’m not sure who decided to stage a Republican presidential debate in the liberal bastion of Boulder, Colorado, and whether it’s an amusing coincidence or subtle trolling. Many local residents are, as the New York Times recently noticed, slightly puzzled and none too pleased about the influx of national Republicans. As a former Boulderite, I can report that a big reason for their discontent is the traditional Republican attitude toward marijuana: This is the party, after all, that christened “Just Say No” and launched the War on Drugs.

Colorado's Marijuana Sales Are Blazing Ahead, but That Exposes 3 Major Problems

The legal marijuana industry is on pace to eclipse $1 billion in sales this year (perhaps in Colorado alone), but that doesn't mean it doesn't have major problems yet to overcome.

Call it the story of the decade if you like, but the marijuana movement appears to be an unstoppable force at the moment.

Denver's Plan to Share Pot Expertise With the World and Other Marijuana Events

Though sometimes reluctantly, Denver is viewed as a trendsetter around the world thanks to being the first major city to regulate legal marijuana.

The City of Denver is ready to officially share its marijuana experiences with politicians and regulators from around the world next week, as it hosts the Denver Marijuana Management Symposium at the Colorado Convention Center on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6.

And that's not the only marijuana education in this week's Cannabis Calendar.
