It will be the first time a retail license has been issued since Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council created the Commission in the spring of 2019 to develop the Six Nations Cannabis Control Law, it’s regulations and build the policies to regulate the cannabis industry on Six Nations Territory.

The Commission’s new Executive Director, lawyer Verna George, introduced herself at a general council meeting Tuesday night where she shared that both production and retail licenses are close to being issued.

“I was so excited about this opportunity,” said George, who is from Six Nations but lives on the Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. “I’m very happy to give back to my community, in this project. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for the community.”

On Saturday at 2:38 p.m., officers with the Belleville Police Service attended a home on Golfdale Road in regards to a theft. The homeowner advised that sometime over the noon hour, two unknown suspects stole two marijuana plants from the side of the house.

Police are reviewing the home owner’s video to identify the suspects.

Wherever one lives in Canada, stealing cannabis plants happens at all times of the year, but there seems to be more complaints of this thievery around traditional harvest season.

Just last month in Chatham, Ont., a sticky-fingered man was charged after his successful bid to steal some marijuana plants from a homeowner’s backyard.

Before Fritz’s Cannabis Company launched on the legal market last month, it had operated as a grey market cannabis brand since 2015.

Appearing at pop-up cannabis events and developing a reputation for tasty and potent edibles, Fritz’s built a loyal following. But that wasn’t enough to capture the interest of the half dozen or so licensed producers that met with Ari Cohen and Tabitha Fritz, the husband and wife duo behind the company, as they navigated going legal.

 Ontario wants to permanently give private cannabis retailers the option of offering delivery and curbside pickup.

The proposal is part of a wide-ranging bill introduced in the legislature Thursday aimed at reducing red tape. Cannabis stores were given temporary permission to allow delivery and pickup during the pandemic.

The government says the proposed change will allow retailers to keep supporting physical distancing and other public-health measures.

Irwin Simon, the CEO of licensed producer Tilray, has earned US$13.2 million ($16.7 million) in cash bonuses this calendar year, according to a recent regulatory filing, first reported by Marijuana Business Daily. Formerly the CEO of Aphria, Simon was named CEO of Tilray after the two companies merged earlier this year. Simon earns a base salary of US$1.7 million ($2.1 million) but the filing shows his total compensation is more than US$28 million ($35.3 million). In July, Simon received “one-time equity grants” that totalled $15 million and were used as “additional incentive” to enter into an employment agreement. According to MJBizDaily, Tilray’s median employee compensation was US$15,061 (about $19,000).

 It's being billed as a unique “plant-to-consumer” experience.

Station House Cannabis Co. by Sensei-Brands in St. Thomas, Ont. is the first store of its kind in southwestern Ontario, and the third in the entire province.

Paul Corbiere, manager of Creekside Cannabis, says Creekside Cannabis was the first cannabis store to open between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. It is licensed to operate by Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

Creekside Cannabis is managed by the Mississaugi Retail Cannabis Corporation, of which Mississauga First Nation is the sole shareholder. All the profits go back into the community, for such things as public works, education, health care and more, says Corbiere.

A local cannabis company, with the help of Blue Cross, created COVID kits for Canadian veterans and then used all the proceeds from the sale of the kits to support various veterans’ organizations.

"We could not be happier with the results of this initiative,” said Justin Whitehall, founder and clinic director of Avail Cannabis, which has locations in both Orillia and Barrie. 

Overall, the initiative raised $13,000.

“We reached our internal goal of giving back $10,000 directly to veteran organizations and we were able to use the remaining funds to contract a world-renowned art therapist, Michael Buchert, to develop Canada's first cannabis art therapy program exclusively for military veterans.”
