Drug user took cannabis to cope with nightmares

A cannabis user who did not give up drugs while on a suspended jail term told a judge it was because he had nightmares – and she told him he should be having nightmares about her jailing him.

Burnley Crown Court had been told how Benjamin Myers (32) had earlier been given the non-custodial sentence after being convicted of possessing cannabis with intent to supply. He had been warned by Judge Beverley Lunt not to re-offend, but months later was caught possessing the drug.

Users describe the terrifying effects of the drug some are calling 'weaponized marijuana'

Synthetic marijuana, also referred to as "replacement cannabis," "K2," and "Spice," is a lab-produced mind-altering drug that aims to mimic the effects of marijuana, but is known to have unpredictable and sometimes dangerous effects, despite its marketing as a safe, legal alternative to marijuana.

New York City's police commissioner, William Bratton, recently said that the drug, which he referred to as "weaponized marijuana" is of "great and growing concern" to the city's police force, which has seen a spike in hospitalizations from the drug.

More political momentum for UK cannabis legalisation

The UK has some of the most outdated cannabis laws in the developed world, but things are starting to change as politicians ask why the UK is spending so much money on strict adherence to prohibition laws which benefit only the criminals.  A recent report from the All Party Parliamentary Group For Drug Policy Reform has been published saying that the ‘war on drugs’ has failed and so has ‘blanket prohibition’.  The report called for experiments to assess the viability and potential benefits of legalisation of drugs such as cannabis.

E-spliff on sale in UK designed to relieve pain minus the high

IT IS the first time I’ve been sent cannabis through the post but I’m unfazed – I’m probably not doing anything illegal.

My delivery is a MediPen. It’s an e-cigarette made using a strain of marijuana high in cannabidiol (CBD), the compound thought to give cannabis its purported medical benefits, and low in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the one that gets you high.

It’s not the first low THC e-cigarette in the UK – a similar device called KanaVape has been on sale since last year – but MediPen is the first designed to give a high dose of CBD. It contains hemp oil imbued with 20 per cent CBD compared with KanaVape’s 5 per cent.

UK: MPs and Peers call for radical new approach to drugs laws

A group of MPs and Peers says legal cannabis markets should be tested and drug use decriminalised as part of a radical new approach to drug use.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Drug Policy Reform wants an overhaul in global narcotics policy.

It says the "war on drugs" and "blanket prohibition" have failed.

The group also believes certain human rights laws could be used to claim that those who possess cannabis should not be treated as criminals.

Vaping: e-cigarettes safer than smoking, says Public Health England

Government body says vaping can make ‘significant contribution to endgame of tobacco’ and raises concerns about length of licensing process

Vaping is safer than smoking and could lead to the demise of the traditional cigarette, Public Health England (PHE) has said in the first official recognition that e-cigarettes are less damaging to health than smoking tobacco.

The health body concluded that, on “the best estimate so far”, e-cigarettes are about 95% less harmful than tobacco cigarettes and could one day be dispensed as a licensed medicine in an alternative to anti-smoking products such as patches.
