It Turns Out Your Body Was Designed to Work Better With Cannabis

Going back millions of years in history, our ancestor's diets were a mix of plant and protein based food. Days were spent lounging in the jungles, foraging for vegetation and fruits, eating termites, figs, seeds and other sources of nutrition. The fruits and vegetation they consumed may have altered the course of our history forever.

Georgia State rep struggling with medical marijuana bill

ATLANTA — More than 100 legislators have signed onto a measure to expand the state’s medical marijuana law and allow for production of cannabis oil in Georgia.

Moultrie Rep. Sam Watson isn’t among them.

Watson voted for a bill last year, the Haleigh’s Hope Act, that allows Georgians with a qualifying condition to possess medical cannabis oil.

Georgians who use the oil in Georgia still risk arrest when transporting it here because cannabis and its extracts are still deemed illegal under federal law.

But Watson says he’s reluctant to expand Georgia’s law. The vegetable farmer said he has plenty of questions about, among other things, how the oil would be produced.

Marijuana Legalization 2016: Maryland Governor Vetoes Decriminalization, Senate Overrides Veto

While legalizing medical marijuana may still be in the distant future for the state of Maryland, the Democrat-controlled state senate ensured that criminal charges could not be brought on residents of their state for public use of marijuana or possession of marijuana paraphenelia. While possession of 10 grams or less of marijuana was decriminalized in 2014 while presidential candidate Martin O’Malley was governor, those who supported this bill said it was “really a correction to what we did a couple of years ago” when these specific applications were overlooked.

Journalists have not been too soft on marijuana

Put it in perspective.

In a recent International Business Times article, the author poses the question: “Are Journalists Too Soft On Pot?” Let me clear this up for you right now. No.

If you want evidence of this, search the word “marijuana” in Google News. What you will likely find is a study that says weed is doing something good for people, an article or two about states that are considering legalizing and then a slew of stories about how organized crime is connected to marijuana.

Maine medical marijuana industry seeking to cash in on the heroin epidemic

It has been heartening to see all of the efforts and initiatives start up across Maine to address the heroin crisis.  Police departments and sheriff’s departments are looking to start up referral and diversion programs to get people suffering into treatment.  Public health coalitions are setting up forums to put together plans to implement in their communities.  Just this month I was appointed co chair of the Prevention and Harm Reduction Task Force of the Maine Opiate Collaborative launched by U.S. Attorney Thomas Delehanty.  The work that is being done amongst the three task forces is impressive and I am confident will result in effective strategies that will get measurable results.  In short, there are a lot of great people on the ground putting plans into action.

Florida's driving rules aren't ready for changes coming to marijuana laws

Marijuana laws are changing all around us.

From a non-euphoric strain that will soon be grown legally in Florida, to a bunch of communities rushing to decriminalize small amounts of pot, to a proposed constitutional amendment that would greatly expand medicinal marijuana around here.

Like it or not, pot is about to become a larger part of society.

And Florida ain't ready for it.

At least not from one important legal perspective.

Like a lot of other states tinkering with more permissive marijuana laws, Florida does not yet have a firm handle on how to determine when a person is driving under the influence.

Milford Conn. embraces medical marijuana

If there’s one lesson Vincent Lambiase has learned in more than 30 years as a small business owner, it’s to avoid locating two businesses of the same kind too close together

“Would you open a pizza parlor near another pizza parlor or a flower shop near another flower shop?” said Lambiase, owner of Beachwood Florist in Milford.

Marijuana group wins free speech lawsuit against Iowa State

DES MOINES, Iowa — A federal judge ruled Friday that Iowa State University administrators violated the constitutional free speech rights of student members of a pro-marijuana group by barring them from using the university logos on T-shirts.

U.S. District Judge James Gritzner issued an order granting members of the ISU chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws a permanent injunction which means university administrators cannot use a trademark policy to prevent the organization from printing shirts depicting a marijuana leaf.
