Celebrate NYE with cannabis ice cream in memory of Bob Marley

A small Italian town has decided to pay tribute to reggae legend Bob Marley by selling cannabis-flavoured ice cream. The producers claim that the “high” ice cream “tastes good and it does good.”

The exotic yummy will be issued by the ice cream shop in the small town of Alassio in northern Italy. And the producers hope their customers will try ‘Bob Marley’ ice cream before the New Year, RT.com reported.

The delicacy, which includes peeled hemp seeds as a base, was created together with Canapa Ligura, a local association that promotes health benefits associated with hemp.

Pot bank begs for access to nation's banking system

DENVER (AP) — The booming marijuana industry went to a federal judge Monday seeking an answer to the problem that has vexed business owners trying to emerge from the black market: Now that pot is legal and taxed in some states, why can't they put the proceeds in a bank?

A Colorado credit union designed to serve the pot industry — Fourth Corner Credit Union — was challenging a decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City to keep the pot bank from accessing the nation's financial system. The feds' rejection earlier this year means that the pot bank can't take deposits or issue credit — leaving many marijuana businesses operating on a cash-only basis.

Taxes on recreational marijuana coming Jan. 4

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Some recreational marijuana users may want to stock up by Jan. 4 when pot sales start getting taxed.

People with medical marijuana cards won't have to pay the tax and will also be able to buy larger quantities. When OLCC-regulated stores begin popping up next year, those sales will only require a 17 percent tax, plus a possible 3 percent could be charged by local cities and counties.

"It's going to be a nice shock to the system when people that don't know get that rise in price that they're not expecting," Jay Baker with Fresh Buds said.

Other changes for 2016? By the end of the year, you won't be able to buy recreational pot at a medical marijuana dispensary -- there will be separate shops for both purposes.

New Hampshire Starts Issuing Medical Marijuana ID Cards

On Monday, New Hampshire began issuing the ID cards for qualifying patients to buy medicinal marijuana, ABC affiliate station WMUR-9 reported. Though the state Legislature legalized medicinal cannabis in 2013, ID card holders in the Granite State have been waiting to legally buy medical marijuana, and will continue waiting until springtime — when New Hampshire's first dispensaries are expected to open.

Judge sympathizes with pot businesses but has misgivings about banking

Colorado credit union seeks federal approval to cater to marijuana businesses

A federal judge said Monday he sympathizes with pot businesses faced with contradictory regulations, but he expressed misgivings about forcing federal officials to approve a marijuana credit union.

U.S. District Judge R. Brooke Jackson made it clear at a court hearing that he was not inclined to issue an injunction forcing the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City to grant a master account to Fourth Corner Credit Union.

"I would be forcing the reserve bank to give a master account to a credit union that serves illegal businesses," Jackson said.

Judge Calls Last Year's Federal Marijuana Banking Guidance Memo A 'Nothingburger'

Marijuana businesses are largely boxed out of the banking industry. Most banks will not work with marijuana businesses because marijuana is illegal federally. Last year the United States Treasury Department issued ‘guidance’ on the issue in an attempt to help banks navigate through the rules. That ‘guidance’ proved to just create more confusion and chaos. The marijuana industry is massive, and growing constantly, yet it’s an all-cash industry right now (except for the lucky few that have bank accounts, which could get shutdown at any time).

U of I treats athletes caught with marijuana differently than other drugs

As the country moves closer to legalizing marijuana, the NCAA is slowly being forced to make decisions. A new investigation done by the Associated Press took a look at how athletic departments in major universities handle marijuana cases.

The study showed that Illinois, along with a number of other Power Five universities, treats a positive test for marijuana differently than tests for other drugs.

From the AP:

Illinois has a separate pot policy that has become more strict but isn’t as punitive as its policy for drugs like cocaine or heroin.

The Toughest Marijuana Laws in the United States

CANNABIS CULTURE – Now that Canada is poised to legalize cannabis for all adults, you may grow complacent about how much trouble marijuana can get you into in the United States.

Sure, we’ve got four states (Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington) that have legalized some possession of weed, with another five states (Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada) likely to legalize in 2016. You can even possess pot in our nation’s capital, Washington DC.
