Marijuana Legalization In Nevada: Voters To Decide Whether To Regulate Like Alcohol

Cannabis or marijuana possession and sale for recreational use in Nevada could be legalized in November next year as the legislature is expected to let voters decide whether to regulate it like alcohol. Nevada already has decriminalized possession of the substance for people 21 and older and it is legalized for medical use in the state, but possession of marijuana is still a misdemeanor and the sale of it is still a felony. The first offense of possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana warrants a $600 fine, and subsequent offenses go up to $5,000 or even jail terms.

Marijuana edible products need stronger regulation, Stanford experts say

Stanford Law Professors Rob MacCoun and Michelle Mello say that marijuana edibles, which look like snacks and are often highly potent, should be better regulated in an effort to protect young children.

Two Stanford law professors call for stronger regulations on the formulation and packaging of edible marijuana products, which children may have trouble distinguishing from snack foods.

States that have legalized marijuana need to put strong restrictions on the drug's edible products, according to two Stanford law professors.

Marijuana bills gaining some traction in Tennessee

Recent polling by Middle Tennessee State and Vanderbilt Universities indicate three of four Tennesseans support legalization in some form

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Even as three U.S. Senators, including Kentucky's Rand Paul, offered up a bill in Washington to protect patients, doctors and businesses from federal prosecution in states with active medical marijuana laws, the pace of legislation in Tennessee has remained cautious.

On Tuesday, Rep. Jeremy Faison's (R-Cosby) bill to legalize cannabis oil for medical purposes passed through the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee, but not without needing an amendment requiring a doctor's letter for patients requesting the treatment.

Anchorage couple cooks up marijuana business

ANCHORAGE –

It’s hard to go wrong with a simple brownie recipe.

Chelsea Deming says she grew up in the kitchen. When she got together with her boyfriend, Derek Herre, she began adding one more special ingredient to her recipes — marijuana.

“He realized that would be a good way for him to medicate without having to smoke,” Deming said.

Herre has Crohn’s disease and has been a medical marijuana cardholder for nearly five years.

“This definitely helps with my inflammation, my nausea,” Herre explained.

Deming bakes for him and now does the same for other medical users. They call their business “Baked Alaska” and word is quickly spreading through social media.

Here’s how it works:

'Money is first': Why some team doctors may be harming pro athletes

It's no secret that professional sports is big business, but the pressures put on some team doctors to nurse high-priced star players back to health is leading to the over-prescription of drugs and ultimately harming the athletes in the long run, an investigation by the fifth estate reveals.

“I think it’s pretty clear to me, and in talking to people who have been team doctors, that ethically [doctors] want to say, 'We’re there for the player and health is first,' but that’s not the reality of pro sports," says Arthur Caplan, a professor at the Sports and Society Program at New York University.

"The reality of pro sports is winning is first, because money is first.”
