Demand For CBD Oil Could Lead To Christmas Tree Shortage

Growers are choosing to grow crops that are easier to take care of and that produce more money than seasonal Christmas trees.

Christmas trees take their time to grow and develop, which is why some growers are tempted to plant less seasonal and more profitable crops, such as hemp. This change could make it hard for those who are looking for a Christmas tree to find the option they want.

Is Manitoba becoming Canada’s edibles manufacturing capital?

Manitoba is being touted as one of the country’s premier pot stops, offering relaxed retail cannabis laws and AgraFlora Organics International Inc. planning to pump out 1,000 cannabis edibles an hour in its Winnipeg plant.

The cannabis company also recently completed the construction of its pharmaceutical-grade research and development laboratory inside the 51,500 sq. ft. edibles factory.

The lab will allow scientists to test the microbiology in edibles and contents of liquids. It also features gadgets to carry out custom confectionery testing and a “proprietary triple shot depositor capable of producing infused chocolate or liquid filled centre in shell pieces, as well as a full vacuum pressure confectionery-cooking system.”

5 Problems Facing The Fledgling Hemp Industry

Cannabis activist Jack Herer once opined that hemp is the only thing that could save the world. So when the new Farm Bill was written into law last year, many believed it to be the birth of an industry with world-changing potential.

While they might yet be correct in their beliefs, the national liberalization of hemp has not been without some hurdles. Tightening regulations, lack of infrastructure, and ‘hot’ crops have all contributed to a difficult year for those who have turned their hand to hemp farming.

Here are some of the main problems plaguing the hemp industry today:

Why Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid Classifications Mean Close to Nothing

While poking around your local dispensary, it’s almost guaranteed that you will speak or hear the terms “indica,” “sativa,” or “hybrid,” at least once. These three terms remain, by far, the most common for describing the attributes and effects of cannabis flower — and even products like edibles and vapes lay claim to the categories, writes Danielle Simone Brand

On the rise: Ryerson students look to replace grow-ops with cannabis-producing yeast

Five Ryerson PhD students are hoping to change the way the world produces marijuana.

Instead of planting seeds and pouring time and money into costly grow-ops, Biofect Innovations, the company formed by the students, wants to use baker’s yeast to produce THC, CBD or any number of other cannabinoids found in cannabis.

The idea is to modify yeast at a genetic level to make it capable of producing the chemicals needed to produce cannabis in a lab. If they are successful, cannabis could be produced in a fraction of the space currently required — a single factory could replace hundreds of acres of crops

Caryophyllene: Rising star of cannabis research

If we can say that CBD and THC are the stars of cannabis research, beta-caryophyllene (BCP) can be viewed as a silent agent behind the curtains that doesn’t make all that noise.

But things are changing for this terpene.

The stats from scientific research say it all.

Even though it was first synthesized in 1964, it didn’t seem to present an interesting challenge for scientific examination.
