New Cannabinoid Said to be 30x Stronger Than THC

Last week, researchers from the University of Salento in Italy discovered two new cannabinoids. The compounds have been deemed tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THCP) and cannabidiphorol (CBDP). What’s interesting about THCP is that it is apparently 30 times stronger than THC. However, nobody is yet to understand what this really means in the grand scheme of cannabis science. The only thing the ganja geeks can say for sure is that this new compound appears to be more prevalent than THC when given to mice. They also believe the presence of THCP could be what provides cannabis strains with varying effects.

Are Canada’s Cannabis Advertising Laws Justified or Overkill?

If you are a Canadian cannabis user, you may have noticed rather plain packaging and not much public advertising for the newly legal drug.

This is no mistake, but intentionally done by the Canadian government in order to prevent cannabis from appealing to those younger than the legal age.

Canada’s cannabis marketing laws are fairly strict — they don’t allow any public portrayal of cannabis related to a lifestyle that can be considered exciting or glamourous, any use of mascots or a public figure, or for companies to use more than one brand element.

The penalty for breaking cannabis advertising laws could be a fine of up to $1 million, depending on the severity of the violation.

Leaking cartridges force Aphria to issue voluntary recall of new vape pens

The new year is off to a rocky start for Aphria Inc.

The Ontario-based medical marijuana and cannabis oil company has issued a voluntary recall of its new line of vape pens because some of its cartridges have a leaking issue.

“Out of an abundance of caution we asked provincial customers to return certain initially shipped ‘510 cartridges’ that did not meet our intended consumer experience,” said Tamara Macgregor, chief corporate affairs officer for Aphria, told The GrowthOp. “We expect to resume shipment of these products shortly.”

Cannabis edibles are now available on NSLC's website

Cannabis edibles are now available through the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) website.

NSLC spokesperson Beverley Ware said online sales began today, Monday, Jan. 6.

"It's very limited as to what we have available, but it does list all the products that we expect to be carrying over time," she told NEWS 95.7's The Sheldon MacLeod Show.

The NSLC was allowed to start issuing purchase orders on December 16 and it had a limited supply of products by Dec. 23 at its 12 cannabis stores across the province.

"The most popular items have been the chocolates and the soft chews," Ware explained. "They had pretty much been sold out across the province by the time we closed Christmas Eve."

New OCS products go on sale today, but online shoppers will have to wait a little longer

Long-awaited second-wave cannabis products such as vapes, edibles and concentrates will finally hit the shelves today at the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS).

The Crown corporation is stocking almost 60 new cannabis-infused products when brick-and-mortar stores open their doors for the day. Ontario’s curious cannabis lovers without a local OCS, however, will have to take a road trip or wait until the products go on sale online on Jan. 1.

Cannabis Decontamination: What Is It And Why Is It Important?

A cannabis product may fail contaminant testing if it has unsafe levels of microbials, heavy metals or pesticides.

While cannabis has many beneficial properties for both medical and recreational users, it also comes with intrinsic dangers like mold and yeast.

Growing cannabis sometimes involves pesticides, and the water can be polluted.

Most states where cannabis is legal have enacted legislation that requires companies to pass tests before releasing their product on the market. This, in turn, created a problem for companies that must ensure their product is safe and compliant with all regulations.
