Is Delta-8 THC Legal?

If you’ve recently stopped by the CBD store down the street or visited one of the many websites selling CBD online, you may have seen something odd – right alongside the CBD oils and tinctures, CBD gummies, and vape juice.

Delta-8-THC.

That leads to a lot of questions.

  1. First of all, what’s THC doing in a CBD store? Isn’t that only supposed to be sold in a marijuana dispensary?
  2. Second, what is Delta-8-THC? Is it just a cleverly named CBD brand? Is it synthetic weed? What’s with the “Delta-8?”
  3. And most importantly: is this really legal?

You have questions. We have answers.

Testing People For Marijuana Impairment By Measuring THC Levels Is Unreliable

A new study indicates that THC levels are not accurate representations of whether someone is impaired or not.

A new study suggests that the amount of THC in someone’s system is not an accurate predictor of impairment.

The study, done with the support of the National Institute of Justice, involved 20 participants. They were asked to consume cannabis through edibles or vapes, all with different degrees of THC. Afterward, participants were tested with common field sobriety tests and asked to complete cognitive tasks.

Zoning for cannabis stores could change to allow for more in Regina

Zoning rules for cannabis stores have left potential businesses frustrated, and amendments could be made to alleviate those concerns, according to a report from City administration

The report said Regina is the only city in Canada that has a reciprocal buffer zone which means schools, parks, day care centres, enclosed rinks, public libraries, and public community centres are not allowed to move within one block or 600 feet of an already established cannabis shop. That rule has kept two to three new businesses from opening so far.

Mississauga councillors vote against allowing legal cannabis stores once again

Mississauga councillors have voted against a proposal to allow legal cannabis dispensaries in the city, this time despite vocal support from Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

Mississauga initially opted not to allow legalized cannabis stores within city boundaries back in 2018 but local councillors had agreed to revisit that decision following a report from staff that examined the experiences of other municipalities.

However, on Thursday members of the Mississauga council general committee ultimately came to the same decision as they did three years ago, voting 8 to 4 against allowing legal cannabis stores to set up shop.

The matter will still have to go before Mississauga city council for a final vote.
