Lawyer once heralded as marijuana movement hero back before disciplinary hearing

A Windsor lawyer accused of practising law without a licence is being hauled before a disciplinary hearing later this week.

Brian McAllister, the lawyer responsible for getting marijuana possession laws temporarily struck down in 2003, has been without a licence to practice law since November 2013. In 2012, he had signed an agreement not to practise law unless he was under the supervision of a mentor approved by the Law Society of Upper Canada, the regulatory body for lawyers in the province. He now stands accused of breaching that 2012 agreement and continuing to practise despite the 2013 licence suspension.

Washington State Marijuana Testing Lab Could Lose Its License

A marijuana testing lab in Poulsbo, Wash., is at risk of losing its license after state auditors found suspicious results and practices.

The Seattle Times reports that auditors have recommended that Testing Technologies lab not be allowed to operate, saying the lab showed consistent inaccuracies in testing data and a disregard for good laboratory practices and sound scientific methods.

The state Liquor and Cannabis Board on Wednesday approved emergency rules to figure out how the state can suspend a lab or impose graduated penalties. Before, the board could summarily suspend a lab, but it was unable to penalize a lab for less egregious violations.

Federal Reclassification of Marijuana Could Have Major Impact on Medical Uses

Federal authorities have announced that they are reviewing the possibility of loosening the classification of marijuana, and if this happens, it could have a far-reaching impact on how the substance is used in medical settings, experts said.

Marijuana is currently classified as a Schedule I drug, meaning it is listed alongside heroin and LSD as among the "most dangerous drugs" and has "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse."

Doctors Are Getting on Board with Connecticut's Push for Children's Medical Marijuana

In a reversal of policy, the Connecticut arm of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has reportedly gotten on board with an effort to expand medical marijuana legalization to sick children in the state.

Connecticut legalized medical marijuana for adults with serious illnesses in 2012, just one year after it decriminalized some cannabis possession. But the state is unique among its 22 other legal medical marijuana peers in that children are completely barred from access to medicinal cannabis.

Trump Tuesday: Saturday Night Live's 'Full-Blown Nut Job' Donald Trump Supporter Is Too Real

The phrase “full-blown nut job” is not always a nice way to describe someone. But it may be, in some cases, an accurate way.

For this week’s cold open on Saturday Night Live, Kate McKinnon was CNN’s Kate Bolduan, while Cecily Strong took on real-life nut Scottie Nell Hughes, a Trump supporter and conservative pundit.

It’s a great skewer of Trump supporters. But for a fake media interview, it’s almost too close to life. Nell Hughes even predicted her own appearance last month, saying that Trump supporters “have been abused, they have been slaughtered, they have been made fun of, on everything from the nightly news to Saturday Night Live.”

These States Could Approve Marijuana Use in 2016

Americans are more supportive of marijuana legalization than ever before, and that support has led to 23 states passing medical marijuana laws and another four states legalizing recreational marijuana use. In November, voters in states including California, Florida, Massachusetts, and Nevada could weigh in on the issue too. With advocates ramping up their efforts to win support for marijuana legalization in these states, let's take a closer look.
