A Hong Kong student high: No jail time for selling cannabis cupcakes and brownies

A secondary school student was spared jail for selling drug-laced delicacies to her classmates at her school's athletics meet in Tsing Yi last year.

Dora Radic, 18, was slapped with a HK$10,000 fine in Tsuen Wan Court yesterday after she previously pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking a dangerous drug involving 0.38 grams of cannabis in the form of five "hash brownies" and 22 "weed cupcakes" at Tsing Yi Sports Ground on November 3 last year.

Her co-defendant, Natasha Richards, 17, admitted the same charge earlier and will be sentenced on January 11.

Radic is a Form Four student at the YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College, while Richards is an ex-student who is now studying in Macau.

Medical marijuana may go the way of alcohol in Michigan Senate

LANSING, MI — Michigan would create a tiered system for medical marijuana growers, distributors and retailers under evolving legislation up for a likely vote Tuesday in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge, said Monday medical pot bills approved by the House earlier this year will be amended in his committee to prevent an owner from being licensed to operate multiple types of medical marijuana businesses.

The state regulates alcohol in a similar, three-tiered fashion.

South Africa: 'Dagga campaign' court battle gets smoked out

A lawyer who has been fighting for over a decade to have marijuana legalised, is back in court. Video: eNCA

CAPE TOWN - A lawyer is promising to continue his 'dagga campaign' -- Gareth Prince is fighting to get marijuana legalised.

He says the law is riddled with inconsistencies. But on Monday, a judge questioned that claim, saying Prince should have done his homework.

A Constitutional Court application by Prince and 18 others failed in 2002. Now they're back in the Western Cape High Court.

The group wants the court to declare certain parts of the law dealing with dagga invalid.

Canada grants commercial producer first licence to sell cannabis oils

Ottawa has given a commercial medical marijuana producer the first licence to sell cannabis oils through the federally regulated mail-order system, six months after a Supreme Court ruling forced Health Canada to allow access to edible forms of the drug.

Peace Naturals Project Inc., based in Stayner, Ont., announced Monday that it is the first commercial producer to be approved to sell cannabis oil. Fourteen other commercial producers are listed on Health Canada’s website as being permitted to produce cannabis oil, but they are still awaiting bureaucratic approval to sell it. Currently, 20 producers are licensed to sell dried marijuana.

Mexico To Hold A Series Of Regional Marijuana Debates

When it comes to drug cartels, Mexico is usually the first country that people think of. That’s not to say that there aren’t cartels in other countries, because there absolutely are, but Mexico serves as a type of ‘funnel’ through which a lot of the drugs that end up in America passes through. Cartels are horrible, and have killed many lives in Mexico and beyond. Those that haven’t been killed often live in fear of what may happen to them at the hands of the cartels.

A 'Budding' Industry: Asian Americans for Cannabis Education

When Tiffany Wu first entered the cannabis industry in March, she noticed that Asian Americans involved in the industry were few and far between — a trend the 28-year-old says was made even more apparent after she attended the Marijuana Business Conference and Expo, one of the nation's largest cannabis trade shows attracting thousands of advocates and industry professionals, in Las Vegas in November.

"ANYTHING IN FAVOR OF GIVING MORE ACCESS TO PATIENTS IS SOMETHING WE ARE GETTING BEHIND. THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO NEED THIS."

"I personally saw maybe less than 15 Asian Americans during my three days there," Wu, a San Francisco Bay Area business attorney specializing in the cannabis industry, told NBC News.

As reported by The Northern Echo, the Teesside grandmother devoted the last months of her life to fighting for the legalisation of the class B drug.
