People in Ontario will get a say in where they can consume cannabis — to a degree

If you imagined that legalizing cannabis would mean weed-infused menus in restaurants, smoking and vaping spaces at music festivals or above-board lounges, now’s the time to share your vision with the Ontario government.

From Feb. 10 to March 10, 2020, the province is inviting feedback from the public about cannabis consumption establishments and special occasion permits. The community consultations could inform how and where you can consume pot socially.

Halifax researcher studies how cannabis affects brain function in young adults

A researcher at Dalhousie University in Halifax is looking at how cannabis use can affect brain function in young adults.

Dr. Philip Tibbo, a professor of psychiatry, is conducting the study with researchers at Western University in London, Ont. It involves 180 people in both provinces between 18-35 who use cannabis to varying degrees.

Cannabis vapes coming to Alberta dispensaries this month

The Alberta government quietly informed cannabis retailers late Friday that vape cartridges will be available for order starting Monday.

The decision comes a little over one month after the province put a hold on releasing the cartridges, saying it wanted to review the safety of the products.

Cannabis vape cartridges are already legally available in other provinces and are easily obtainable on the black market, according to cannabis retailers.

Heather Holmen, communications manager for Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), confirmed an email went out to retailers Friday alerting them that the products would be on their weekly order forms starting Monday.

Canada Post asks cannabis producers to stop shipping to Campobello Island

Canada Post has asked cannabis producers to stop shipping marijuana to a small island in Eastern Canada, in order to curb a sharp increase in the number of mail trucks being stopped and searched by U.S. border officials.

Campobello Island, located off the southwestern tip of New Brunswick, is accessible year-round only by a bridge from the American state of Maine, so all mail to the community must pass briefly through the United States.

Over the last year, residents have been experiencing a rise in the number of their letters and packages being searched and seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorities.
