71% oppose enforcing federal marijuana laws in states where the drug is legal

A stark rejoinder to what Sean Spicer said on Thursday about applying federal drug laws to recreational marijuana use even in states that have legalized the drug. The public’s not keen on that idea.

And neither is Trump’s party:

Local businesses react to White House hinting at marijuana crackdown

Is pot in the hot seat?

Local businesses were caught off guard after Press Secretary Sean Spicer hinted that there would be “greater enforcement” of recreational marijuana.

“There’s a big difference between (medical marijuana) and recreational marijuana,” said Spicer in a news conference Thursday. “And I think when you see something like the opioid addiction crisis blossoming in so many states around this country, the last thing we should be doing is encouraging people.”

Dr. James Lathrop, owner of Cannabis City in Seattle, said the only distinction between medical and recreational marijuana is access, and connecting marijuana to opioid addiction is misleading.

Maha Shivaratri 2017: Stunning images show holy men smoking cannabis and smearing their bodies with ash

Hundreds of holy men have gathered to celebrate the Hindu festival of Maha Shivaratri.

The men, traditionally called Sadhus, will perform holy rituals at Pashupatinath temple in Nepal today.

Nepal temporarily lifts the ban on marijuana for the holy festival so holy men can smoke it to imitate the Hindu God Shiva.

However, they are not permitted to sell or allow pilgrims to smoke the drug and must only consume it in the temple. They can also press the ash to the heads of pilgrims using their thumbs.

Pilgrims instead are only allowed to pour milk over a stone phallus, offer up fruit and sandalwood paste and burn incense.

Friday Funny: When the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act hits the House floor

Ok, this isn't the funniest comic we've posted, but it sure is timely considering Sean Spicer's comments yesterday.

It's time to take action. If you're on this website you likely have something to lose if the Trump Administration has its way. Here's what you can do:

Is marijuana stronger than it used to be? Here's what the science says

If you've ever smoked up with someone who lived through the 1960s, you may have heard them remark that marijuana is much stronger than it used to be.

But is that actually true, or just a hippie myth? Here's the straight dope.

How we measure marijuana strength

Because it's too difficult to ask Willie Nelson, we're forced to measure weed's potency the only way we really can: by examining its concentration of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive chemical that gets us high.

Wyoming: Senate committee narrows scope of marijuana bill

A Senate committee on Wednesday tightened a bill that deals with penalties for possession of marijuana-infused products.

House Bill 197 originally created a tiered penalty system for possession of small amounts of marijuana or marijuana-infused products.

The penalty system applied to possession of marijuana in plant form of less than 3 ounces and marijuana-infused products less than 8 ounces.

However, the Senate Judiciary Committee last week amended the bill to only apply to marijuana-infused products. It further amended the bill Wednesday to set the misdemeanor cutoff for possession of marijuana-derived products like extracts to 3 grams of such a substance. This is consistent with existing law for liquid forms of drugs.

Massachusetts Weed Dealers Skirting Regulations by Gifting Grams Disguised as "Free Samples"

Selling weed isn’t legal yet, but giving it away disguised as a $50 VIP club package apparently is.

Massachusetts voters passed a ballot measure legalizing adult recreational marijuana use in late 2016, but, like California, regulations for the distribution and sale of weed haven’t been finalized and selling it is still very much illegal.

Giving your stash away, though, became legal as soon as recreational use did, and some entrepreneurial Mass residents are taking full advantage of the loophole, creating makeshift cannabis clubs where a bag of bud is one VIP cover charge away.

Here's Why Lawmakers in 17 States Are Working to Legalize Recreational Pot

When Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure in November to legalize recreational marijuana, Josh Miller saw this as a sign that his time had finally arrived.

The Rhode Island state senator has a reputation among colleagues as a cannabis crusader — a battle that, so far, he’s lost. For the last three years, Miller introduced legislation to legalize recreational pot, and for the last three years, his efforts have died in committee hearing rooms.

But now, in a turnaround, some of Miller’s colleagues are signaling an interest in legalized weed — and raking in the tax dollars that come with it.
