Big victories for legal pot, but path ahead is uncertain

MA voters have approved the legalization of recreational marijuana, making it the first state on the east coast to do so. As of this morning in ME, the "yes" vote leads by less than 1 point with 98% of precincts reporting.

Kevin Sabet, an ex-presidential drug policy adviser who is now leading the national anti-legalization association Smart Approaches to Marijuana, said, "We'd like [Trump] to enforce the law".

Marijuana Advocates Wait for Trump's Stance on Legalized Cannabis

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the Nov. 8 election, marijuana legalization advocates are left with a big unanswered question:

How will the Trump Administration change federal policies on cannabis? At this point, no one knows for certain. While some voice optimism about Trump’s past statements on legalized marijuana, others have concerns about the opinions of potential cabinet members and Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

The difference between the two leaves plenty of room for uncertainty.

Marijuana industry leaders converge on Vegas for convention

More than 10,000 cannabis industry leaders from around the country have converged on Las Vegas for a convention.  At ShowGrow, marijuana professionals are looking at everything from equipment and fertilizer to an actual mockup of a dispensary.

"What we've done with the ShowGrow concept is to offer safe access, in essence, with a fun environment," said David Barakett, CEO of ShowGrow.

At the convention, businesses offer a glimpse into what Nevada's marijuana industry could look like in the future.  State lawmakers will soon tackle a bill that would require edibles to be packaged in non-descript, child-proof packaging.

Manufacturers like California-based Kush Bottles are already working on meeting those standards.

Pro-marijuana bills introduced by Texas lawmakers after weed wins big on Election Day

Texas lawmakers have begun a multi-pronged attempt to reshape marijuana rules in the Lone Star State in the wake of voters passing pro-pot initiatives in several states across the country as a result of last week’s election.

At least six marijuana-related proposals have been laid out since Monday when state lawmakers officially became able to file bills to be considered during the 2017 legislative session, The Texas Tribune reported this week.

Days after voters in four states agreed to legalize marijuana for recreational use, Texans may likely decide soon if they want to follow suit and reshape drugs laws of their own.
