Marijuana may be legal, but it can still get you fired

In Colorado, recreational marijuana has been legal since 2012, but it’s still forbidden by many employers.

That apparent conflict means lab owner Kelly Kirwan sees people regularly attempting to rig their drug tests. Some try to use someone else’s urine (requiring them to reheat it for authenticity; sparking the microwave rule at the nearby convenience store), while others try to mix in powders they buy via Internet in the hope of masking pot-positive results.

Denver Is the First City to Allow Marijuana in Bars and Restaurants

Voters have approved the Prop 300 law.

A glass of wine with dinner? Or maybe some marijuana?

Denver voters have approved a first-in-the-nation law allowing willing bars and restaurants to give patrons the option to use marijuana alongside a cocktail or meal. The catch: Smoking pot won’t be allowed inside, and the locations would have to first get the approval of neighbors.

Denver voters approved Proposition 300 on the same day that the nation’s largest state of California and two others legalized pot for all adults and five more states approved pot for sick people—signs of society’s increasing tolerance for the drug.

Tommy Chong Says Cannabis Keeps Him Young And Curious

Cannabis activist, entrepreneur and counter culture icon Tommy Chong says there’s a simple - albeit selfish - reason he’s still smokin’ at age 78: it keeps him young, man.

“Even though, up close, I look ancient, from a distance you couldn’t tell if I was 30, 40 or 80, like I am close to being,” Chong said. “It’s kept me curious. It’s steered me in a spiritual direction. Marijuana affects that part of our spirit that is eternal.”

Not in My Backyard: Massachusetts Communities Hope to Shut out Local Pot Shops

A number of cities and towns are exploring ways to limit or even snuff out marijuana shops in their communities, less than a week after voters legalized the drug for recreational use in Massachusetts.

Some local officials worry that a profusion of marijuana stores will turn quaint New England downtowns into drug havens. Others are concerned the shops will crowd along the New Hampshire state line, luring unwanted out-of-state customers and clogging the streets with impaired drivers.

“I’m dead set against it,” said Mayor Stephen N. Zanni of Methuen, who wants to ban marijuana retailers from opening in his city, where 52 percent of local voters opposed the ballot question. “I don’t think it’s an appropriate fit here for our community.”

Lionel Messi Leads Argentina Teammates In Media Boycott Over Ezequiel Lavezzi Marijuana Claims

Lionel Messi has led his international teammates on a boycott of the Argentinian media after growing tired of their continued attempts to undermine the national side at every turn.

Not for the first time, Messi and co. were barracked in the press after losing 3-0 against Brazil in last week’s World Cup qualifier, only to bounce back with a convincing win over Colombia in their very next game – a result which moved the Albiceleste back into the play-off spot.

Anti-Marijuana Campaigners in Maine Collecting Last of Signatures

Campaigners who oppose Maine's move toward legalized marijuana are entering their final full day of collecting signatures to force a recount.

The No on 1 campaign needs to collect 100 signatures by 5 p.m. on Wednesday to bring about the recount. A spokeswoman for the Maine Department of the Secretary of State says a recount would likely take several weeks.

Mainers voted to legalize recreational marijuana on Nov. 8. The vote was decided by a fraction of a percentage point, and opponents of legalization said last week that they would pursue a recount.

Start Your Spring Off With A Bhang: Caribbean Cannabis Cruise Sets Sail Next April

It started at the best of times in what was then one of the worst states for cannabis legalization. The exuberance of the chase to get Florida’s Amendment 2 on the ballot in 2014 and the confirmation of the polls of more than 70 percent support. Then the epoch of disbelief, as Amendment #2 failed to get the much needed 60 percent of the vote, left medical cannabis activists Kathleen Isoldi and Candice A. Marschke incredulous.

Can Visitors Smoke? 10 Need To Knows About Cali's New Cannabis Rules

Now that California has legalized recreational marijuana for adult use, it doesn't mean you can drop by your neighborhood store and pick up a pack of pre-rolls and enjoy a toke walking down the street. What are the new cannabis rules?

Here are the do's and don'ts for Californians and those of you visiting the state:

When do the marijuana stores open?

You are going to have to wait until January 2018 -- yep, more than a year - before the state sanctions recreational stores. Medical patients can still go to existing dispensaries for their medicine.

Rhode Island Could Follow Massachusetts on Legal Pot

Rhode Island leaders are looking at following Massachusetts on the path to legalizing recreational marijuana.

Gov. Gina Raimondo said Tuesday she’ll take a more serious look after Massachusetts voters approved a pot legalization ballot measure last week.

The Democrat says it’s not a race to get ahead of the neighboring state. She wants to get the regulations right and remains concerned about safety.

Democratic House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello says he’s ready to take up legislation next year because marijuana will become readily available to Rhode Islanders traveling across the Massachusetts border, causing concerns without the tax revenues to address them.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Dominick Ruggerio says he’s also preparing to act.

California: Santa Cruz Bans Growing Recreational Marijuana Temporarily

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a temporary ban on growing recreational marijuana commercially Tuesday afternoon in response to Prop 64.

Supervisors approved an emergency 45-day moratorium that makes growing marijuana commercially to be sold for recreational uses, as well as growing outdoors, illegal.

Medical marijuana, and growing weed indoors for personal recreational use, are still legal.

California voters passed Prop 64 last week.

The purpose of Santa Cruz's emergency moratorium is to give county supervisors time to study, develop, and create regulations over farming and selling.

San Jose already passed a similar moratorium.
