For third time, marijuana operation in Placentia complex dogged by same dog

When it comes to sniffing out trouble, Scooby-Doo has nothing on Habo the German shepherd.

For the third time in less than two years, the police dog has sniffed out a marijuana growing operation at the same Placentia industrial complex.

The Placentia Police Department’s K9 unit dog alerted officers to the marijuana in the 700 block of Monroe Way. Officers had served a search warrant Monday morning and seized 600 live plants and 100 pounds of packaged marijuana valued at half a million dollars.

Placentia police Lt. Eric Point said Habo previously sniffed out marijuana in a suite of the complex in July and last year in April.

Two men were taken into custody in April in relation to the marijuana find.

What Marijuana May Do to Sperm

According to science, you may want to lay off the weed if you’re trying to conceive.

Smoking pot could damage your semen quality, or so suggests a new study out of Denmark. Some 1,215 Danish men ages 18 to 28 were asked about their drug use over the past three months and provided a semen sample. The researchers found a correlation between men who smoked pot more than once weekly and “quite a lot” of a drop in sperm count: the count was an average 29 percent lower in these men than in those who reported lighter or no usage.

Those who reported additional drug use (anything from cocaine to ecstasy) saw an even more severe reduction, with average sperm count down 55 percent.

Alcohol sales get higher after weed legalization contrary to industry fears

Underlying the debate over marijuana legalization has been an equally fierce battle between marijuana and another so-called vice industry: alcohol.

As an increasing number of states look to join the four states and Washington DC in legalizing recreational marijuana, many in the alcohol industry have feared that legalized weed will cut into their existing profits.

But a few years into Colorado legalization, alcohol sales are up in the state, and those in the alcohol business have embraced their fellow industry.

Recreational marijuana use proven safe to brain, study finds

The potential effect of cannabis on brain structure remains a subject of intense scientific scrutiny, but mixed results have emerged from two of the latest studies on the topic.

The effects that marijuana has on a user’s brain have been one of the major questions when it comes to legalizing the drug.

Study participants who’d used pot had on average, a slightly smaller amygdala and a slightly smaller right ventral striatum (another brain region, associated with the reward system). Their brains showed lower cortical thickness when they used marijuana. And several studies have found that people who smoke pot are more likely to develop schizophrenia than those who don’t use the drug.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day

"The stereotype of overdose is a person with a needle in their arm"

IN 2012, 350 people died in Ireland from overdoses – twice as many people as those who died in traffic accidents that same year.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, a time to draw attention to the impact overdoses have across the world.

The Ana Liffey Drug Project is using the day to raise awareness of the devastating effects drug overdoses have on public health here in Ireland.

There were an estimated 183,000 drug-related deaths across the world in 2012 – the most recent official statistics – most of which were overdoses.

Six Reasons Why Exercising Is Better When You Consume Marijuana

I received the following article from Anthony Franciosi, founder of The Honest Marijuana Company out of Colorado, and felt it was worth passing along. Exercising is important, and I think that cannabis is also important. Below are six reasons to combine the two:

The words “marijuana” and “exercise” may not go together upon first glance, but they actually go hand in hand. The marriage of the two is something you may have not considered, but if you’re looking to get ripped–you really should.

Listen up.

Did you know that weed is actually the best thing you can do for your workout routine?

Sure, we know pot has the power to relieve pain and stress, but did you know it can also improve focus, increase metabolism, and make you BETTER at your favorite sports?

The 1 Battle That Marijuana Users May Not Win

For the most part, almost everything has worked in favor of the marijuana industry over the past two decades. Although you can point to medical marijuana defeats in select states (e.g., Florida's amendment to legalize medical marijuana), marijuana has done nothing but expand its influence, all while support for its legalization among the public has grown.

Hunting Moroccan hashish in the Strait of Gibraltar

In the Strait of Gibraltar (Spain) (AFP) - As the powerful motors of their speedboat roared, Spanish police used a thermal imaging camera to scan the sea in the Strait of Gibraltar for traffickers smuggling hashish from Morocco.

It's just after midnight and the cameras and radars that monitor the coast detect a dodgy-looking boat.

The control centre informs police in Algeciras, a port city in southern Spain just 90 minutes by ferry from Morocco, and three officers immediately jump into the boat to investigate.

"They are likely looking for a place to unload their merchandise," said one of them, Jesus, who declined to give his last name.

The Doobie Diet: Cannabis Keeps You Thin

Potheads rejoice and revel in your healthy lifestyle choices! In news that will surely get a giggling woo-hoo from stoners everywhere, scientists have concluded that using marijuana makes you less likely to be obese. This seems counterintuitive to anyone who has ever taken Mary Jane out for the night and then had a serious case of the munchies. Surely all those two-in-the-morning trips to 7-11 for Ben and Jerry's and microwave burritos pile on the pounds, don't they?
