Colorado group aims to mandate THC symbol on marijuana edibles

All marijuana edibles in Colorado - whether it's hard candy, brownies or granola bars - would be marked with a diamond shape that encloses the letters THC under rules that were debated before members of the Marijuana Enforcement Division Monday at the state Capitol.

The goal of the new "universal symbol" mandated under House Bill 1366 from 2014 is to end the accidental ingestion of marijuana infused products by making them easily recognizable even when they are outside of the package. The symbol would be required on both medical and recreational marijuana products.

Marijuana tops cigarettes as daily habit among US college students: study

More U.S. college students are making a habit of using marijuana, which has supplanted cigarettes as the smoke-able substance of choice among undergraduates who light up regularly, a study released Tuesday found.

Just under 6 per cent of the full-time students surveyed by University of Michigan researchers for the annual "Monitoring the Future" study reported using pot either every day or at least 20 times in the previous 30 days.

By contrast, 5 per cent of respondents identified themselves as heavy cigarette smokers, a steep decline from the 19 per cent who said they smoked daily in 1999.

Dabbing: the 'cannabis crack' that makes skunk seem weak

If smoking a joint is like drinking a pint of beer, doing a dab of concentrated cannabis oil is like necking a quarter pint of vodka. Time for the inevitable tabloid panic?

As soon as they find out what it is, the tabloids are going to freak out about dabbing. This new technique for getting stoned involves young people heating a pinhead’s worth of super-concentrated cannabis oil with a blowtorch, then inhaling it through a glass pipe. For detractors, it’s known as “cannabis crack”.

10 Reasons to Legalize All Drugs

The war on drugs has been an unequivocal failure. Although many people are hesitant when it comes to the idea of legalizing all drugs – which is understandable given the extreme dangers of certain substances – it’s truly the only solution to ending the pain, death and social regression that comes with the drug war.

Below are what we here at TheJointBlogbelieve to be ten of the most important reasons for why we should legalize all illegal substances, not just cannabis.

The war on drugs, and the black market it creates, has led to a pandemic of violence and death, and only legalization will solve the problem.

Clovis police use marijuana goggles to educate public

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) --

Police across the Valley have their eyes out for drunk drivers. But in this day and age, it's not just alcohol they're worried about.

"What's happening down the road is a lot of people are overmedicating themselves, and that's where they start becoming impaired. We're taking a special look at that, and it is a violation of the law," Clovis Police Officer Mark Bradford said.

Bradford is one of six drug recognition experts in the department. Officers are seeing a disturbing trend of more people being arrested for impaired driving. Recently, the department got a new tool to educate the public: marijuana goggles.

"A lot of people are really amazed on how much they feel impaired just putting those goggles on," Bradford said.

Public Release: 1-Sep-2015 Daily marijuana use among US college students highest since 1980

ANN ARBOR--Daily marijuana use among the nation's college students is on the rise, surpassing daily cigarette smoking for the first time in 2014.

A series of national surveys of U.S. college students, as part of the University of Michigan's Monitoring the Future study, shows that marijuana use has been growing slowly on the nation's campuses since 2006.

Daily or near-daily marijuana use was reported by 5.9 percent of college students in 2014--the highest rate since 1980, the first year that complete college data were available in the study. This rate of use is up from 3.5 percent in 2007. In other words, one in every 17 college students is smoking marijuana on a daily or near-daily basis, defined as use on 20 or more occasions in the prior 30 days.

No More ‘Joe Camel,’ Please!

Many of us who try to stay current with legalization efforts around the country were amazed this past week when ResponsibleOhio, the group that recently qualified a full legalization initiative for the November 2015 Ohio ballot, managed to offend almost everyone, regardless of their views on marijuana legalization, with their ham-fisted attempt to be cute.
