‘Misleading’ THC and CBD labelling practices prompts letter from Health Canada

Health Canada reminds producers that displaying THC and CBD values that “have not been obtained as a result of cannabinoid testing on each lot or batch of cannabis” may result in non-compliance.

In March, Mandesh Dosanjh, president and CEO of Pure Sunfarms, wrote a blog post on LinkedIn calling out discrepancies in potency labelling practices among Canadian cannabis companies.

Specifically, Dosanjh wrote that some companies were taking a “static” approach to labelling THC and CBD values, where “one potency label is pre-printed and applied across many batches which fall within a pre-determined range to save on costs.”

Starting today, Albertans can purchase cannabis pre-rolls for the suggested retail price of $1

A new promotion from cannabis marketing company A Higher Level of Thought (AHLOT) will give Albertans the chance to sample pre-roll joints from Grizzlers, a legacy brand turned legal, for just $1.

The sampling program, which begins today, could soon roll out in other provinces as well, says AHLOT CEO Greg Pantelic.

Customers can purchase a single 0.5-gram Grizzlers pre-roll from licensed retailers in Alberta and Pantelic says the company is working to offer products from other licensed producers at a “sample friendly price point.”

“It’s somewhat like Costco on a Saturday afternoon, where you’re able to try some free samples. And, if you like it, you can pick up the full size, as well,” says Pantelic. “That’s what we’ve tried to do.”

London-listed marijuana business Kanabo (KNB.L) has struck a deal that it says will make it Europe's biggest publicly traded cannabis company.

Kanabo said on Monday it had agreed terms to buy the European operations of Canada's Materia, a cannabis processor and supplier. Exact terms weren't disclosed but Kanabo said the deal would be paid for through shares and subject to performance-related goals.

"The only part that we’re not involved in now in the supply chain is cultivation," Kanabo's chief executive Avihu Tamir told Yahoo Finance UK. "Our belief is that cultivation will be a commodity like other agricultural products. We believe the value is in the last mile."

No 6-pack for you: Cannabis beverage seller says regulations choking industry

cannabis drinks

The summer of 2021 could have been the first big season of cannabis-infused beverages if people could only have grabbed a six-pack from stores, says one eastern Ontario seller.

Brad Stewart, co-founder of Molecule, a business based in Lansdowne, Ont., says people in the industry have been left scratching their heads by the way Health Canada calculates the amount of marijuana in an infused drink.

Using Health Canada's calculations, a 355 ml drink is considered to have the equivalent of slightly more than five grams of cannabis, even though one beverage can only contain a maximum of 10 mg of THC, the psychoactive chemical in the marijuana plant.
