Cannabis stocks were a growth machine for investors following the 2015 Canadian federal election. Today, I want to look at Canopy Growth (TSX:WEED)(NYSE:CGC) and Aurora Cannabis (TSX:ACB)(NYSE:ACB), two top producers whose shares have plunged in 2021. Which is the better buy today? Headset predicts full-steam ahead for cannabis market growth in Canada this year

Canada’s cannabis industry is forecast to see healthy growth this year, more than double south of the border, but it is anticipated that growth will slow and come in line with that of the U.S. next year, suggests a new report released this week by Headset, a U.S.-based data and market intelligence firm.

“The smaller Canadian market is forecast to grow almost double the U.S. growth rate from 2020 to 2021,” notes the report. But the Canadian growth will slow in 2022 and likely be more in line with what happens in the U.S.

Brand building in the cannabis industry

The North American cannabis market – while still in its early days – has changed a lot in the past few years. Canada legalised recreational use of the drug in 2018 and to date 16 US states have fully legalised marijuana use (36 allow it for medical purposes). The shifting legal and regulatory framework has had an impact on businesses’ trademark strategies in both countries, with brand owners having to act quickly and think ahead to ensure that their rights are protected.

Canada Leads the Way on Cannabis And Mental Health in the Workplace

Since 2018, Cannabis has become a legal psychoactive substance in Canada. Since then we've seen progressive reforms. So progressive that some workplaces now permit the use of cannabis during office hours.

Seeing cannabis and the workplace in the same sentence might seem weird. However, it's the truth. Not all cannabis strains make the consumer couch-locked. Some induce a productive streak in the worker. It is commendable that some workplaces have decided to take advantage of this fact.

Some corporations may soon allow the consumption of a strain of pot during office hours, but this can only be done if the strain has been proven to have very little effect on reducing productivity levels.
