Cannabis For Mental Health In The Workplace — How Canada Is Showing Us The Way

In the workplace, the rules prohibiting cannabis are far murkier than that of alcohol.

Since 2018, cannabis has become a legal psychoactive substance in Canada. Since then, we’ve seen reforms so progressive, some workplaces now permit the use of cannabis during office hours.

Seeing cannabis and the workplace in the same sentence might seem weird. However, it’s the truth. Not all cannabis strains make the consumer couch-locked; some actually induce a productive streak. It is commendable that some workplaces have decided to take advantage of this fact.

A Canada Post distribution centre was instrumental in the New Brunswick RCMP seizing cannabis edibles, some of which looked very much like popular candy, and dried flower earlier this week in Dieppe.

The RCMP did not specify how much candy was confiscated, but did report that officers also discovered “a significant amount of illegal dried cannabis.”

Opinion: Cannabis advocates praise billion-dollar market, but seem wary of big business

Cannabis brings big money to those U.S. states willing to legalize. This is the message marijuana advocates have been preaching for years, and they take every opportunity to praise it as a selling point.

Some of the latest numbers prove that the sale of cannabis products is poised to become one of the largest, tax-generating inebriation markets in the U.S.

Why the Next Quarter Could Be Tough for Canadian Cannabis Companies

For many Canadian pot stocks, growing sales just isn't a given anymore. Now that the industry is more developed and there are more competitors, companies are getting more aggressive in trying to pad their top lines, like introducing value brands to wrestle away sales from the illegal market and rivals. But that only exacerbates another issue in the industry: A lack of profitability. Many pot producers in Canada are deep in the red.

Books, backpacks and bud: Could UBC get Canada’s first on-campus pot shop?

Burb Cannabis is hoping to be a hit with the student body, but first needs the green light to set up shop at a University of British Columbia (UBC) campus.

It is believed that any such approval would make Burb Cannabis the first cannabis retail outlet to be located on university property in Canada, according to Mugglehead Magazine.

Canopy Growth eyes U.S. for profits and growth; investors harbour doubt

When a company reveals a $1.7-billion annual net loss — as Canopy Growth did on Tuesday — then asserts “very high degree of confidence” it will turn a profit in another year, you could be forgiven some doubt.

On the other hand, the Smiths Falls enterprise is capable of delivering surprising story lines. To date these have come in two separate acts.

The effects of the pandemic on cannabis use in teens

Most parents in Canada teach their kids how to swim at a young age because we have a lot of lakes and pools.

“We can’t drain all the lakes and all the pools out there. It’s better to equip our kids with the skills to be able to swim if they fall into a lake.”

Chantal Vallerand is the executive director of Drug-Free Kids Canada, and makes this analogy when discussing how parents should educate their children about cannabis.

“No matter what we do there will always be substances available to our kids, and our kids are always going to be susceptible to being offered them.”

Vallerand believes simply telling kids to say no is not sufficient.

Why Different Countries Are Relaxing Their Cannabis Laws

As the first European country to legalize cannabis, Luxembourg has called on other European countries to relax their drug laws, specifically cannabis production and consumption. According to the European state, the continent’s drug policy has not worked over the last few decades, and forbidding everything made it more attractive for people to find new ways of skirting laws.

The country’s relaxed laws will see residents over 18 years old able to buy cannabis for recreational use starting from 2020. The state will establish a cannabis agency to regulate all production and distribution. What’s more, minors between ages 12 and 17 will not face criminal charges if caught in possession of five grams or less of the drug. However, those who break the law will receive harsh penalties.

These Canadian Cannabis Producers May Benefit From an Israeli Medical Innovation

According to Health Canada, the Canadian medical cannabis market currently contains 320,000 registered patients, and an estimated total of 8 million Canadians experience chronic pain. An Israeli pharma-tech, Syqe Medical, which specializes in inhalation devices for therapeutic drugs, has developed an innovative medial cannabis inhaler -- touted as a first of its kind -- to help treat these patients. During its announcement of regulatory approval in Canada on April 28, the company did not name a licensed producer. However, there is reason to believe that the licensed producer could be a North American cannabis operator headquartered in Canada called TerrAscend (OTC:TRSSF).
